You must be getting excited Re: A custom build in Hammond Heights - walls started. 63Apr 21, 2014 12:03 pm At last, after an almost 10 week wait after the slab was put down, bricklayers have arrived and have started to build the walls of our house. This house building thing definitely does stretch your patience. It seems like it has already taken us a lifetime, and we thought we had run out of enthusiasm. Suddenly though, we are excited again. We started thinking about building mid 2012, bought the block early in 2013. Since we started, so much has changed. We redesigned our house completely between signing the PPA and the final contract; had to reselect our tiles, laminates etc several times because our original choices became unavailable or were discontinued and had major stresses over finance due to valuation issues (which ended up working well and truly in our favour in the end). The slab went down in February and there was a "bricklayer shortage" so waited and waited and waited. Anyway, last Monday our bricklayer started. He seems like a really nice guy and is making good progress. I drive past daily to look at what is happening, but my partner only gets there on weekends. We drove out on Good Friday to check out the bricks and to our surprise the brickie was working. It turns out he is from Melbourne, here to make money as the bricklayer shortage guarantees him lots of work, and has no family here so is happy to work on public holidays! Best thing is, he told us that whilst he has 4 weeks to build the house, he plans to finished in 3. Hopefully he will be finished, and the roof will be on, before we have any significant rainfalls. So relieved to be seeing some progress again. It can really kill the excitement when nothing happens for extended periods of time, especially if you are visiting daily and seeing nothing. We tried to only visit on weekends to give the builders more time to get something done. Looking really good and even better that the brickie will be working public holidays to get it done faster for you. It will all be worth it in the end, you forget pretty quickly about all of the delays and set backs when you get to live in a brand new home:) Building Standards; Getting It Right! We bought a house in 2015 advertised as a 7/2/2, 4br up, 3br down (7br), and to date, it’s a great house. However, we’ve just had it valued and it’s come in as a… 0 11944 I'd get the gutters to match your roof and pipes to match the paint - otherwise they become a feature. Nice pick with the paint colours! 1 34240 6 55165 |
