DUCTED VACUUMING AND VACPAN

I guess the best test is to go over your vacuumed carpets again with a good portable unit with powerhead and see what comes up.

Have done!

I also own a wertheim with a power head.

The amount of 'extra' dirt is almost non existant afer I vac with the ducted system.

I think perhaps you underestimate the suction / power of a turbohead.

Have you any personal experience using this method?

Aside from the ease of use, reliability, weight etc etc the key benefit I see is that the stuff it sucks up goes somewhere else - along with all the airborn particles too.

Additionally you can vacumn and yap on the phone at the same time and whilst people are asleep coz the noise is in the garage.

Also the vacpan is the most perfect invention ever.

Buy two vacuums

I'm still under the impression that a Dyson will do a better job than just about anything

I know someone who just built, 3 levels, they said if there is one thing we MUST get it's the ducted vac....and also there won't be any crashing into walls, which I do all the time, there's just a big long hose with a sock around it :shock:

No-ones knocking that the Dyson is an excellent vacumn. I have a Dyson - this is my second, my first died after a respectable 5 years.

HOWEVER

* I have dyson marks all over my walls, just little knocks and knicks but it doesn't corner that well.
* My dyson is flipping heavy and impossible to use on the stairs I'm having in my new house.
* My parents ducted system has got the same suction as my dyson (we compared after I raved so much about it when I got it) and its more than 30 years old and has never broken down.
* I have broken the latch on my Dyson 3 times - there is nothing to break on the ducted system.
* My 4 year old niece uses the ducted system (she likes to clean ! must of been switched in the hospital)- its just a hose after all, theres no moving parts, electricity etc. I would not let her near a dyson.

Finally - no vacpan - I have daydreams about the vacpan

Do you get those attachments with the ducted vac system Matt or are they purchased seperatly after?

I'm not sure who PD use for their ducted vac systems...should find out

There are aftermarket power heads that can fit quite a few systems but they are hard to come by in Australia.

The central unit is more powerful but you also have to consider the resistance in the ducting and pressure/flow losses. Suction alone won't clean your carpets. Turboheads and powerheads have rotating bristles that beat the carpet and loosen the entrapped dirt. Turboheads are air driven whilst powered head have a separate motor. The latest upright Dysons have motorised brushes now.

Nah getting one in my new place - actually likely two, one upstairs in the kitchen and another one downstairs for the high traffic tiled areas - I seem to be muddy a lot :shock:

WOW, I have never seen a Vacpan before! (yes, I lead a boring life). I can't wait for our new house just so I can have one of those Vacpan doodads and the ducted vac also...yippee. Is it something that the bigger building companies offer you or do you have to arrange someone else to install it during the build? Og geez I sound so dumb, sorry. :oops:

I do rave about my Dyson, I love it, but I can't imagine dragging it up all those stairs.

How much did it cost for you? I saw someone say $1800, is that including the whole system? If it's decent I might ask our builder...

$1800 for us + $450 for the vacpan. Now that was pretty steep for extra ducting in the kitchen cupboards !

Well I am considering ducted vac and vacpan now. My neighbour says that her ducted vac HOSE takes up a huge amount of storage space in her laundry. I hope this hasn't already been covered in previous comments but I am wondering if anyone can comment on this? I also have to wonder if I bought 2 Dyson's (I love my Dyson, sooo good for allergy sufferers) one for upstairs and one for downstairs it would be cheaper than the ducted system.

and just as effective?
