Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Hickinbotham build progress - 6 weeks to go 161Sep 27, 2013 8:56 am Good news on the power point. Surely they would have to fix the back of the cupboard. Fingers crossed for the kitchen end unit. Re: Hickinbotham build progress - 6 weeks to go 162Oct 01, 2013 7:14 pm Is amazing how the Builder when presented an issue generally go in to Offence first and deny it/blame the subby.bamboozle you with tech talk when in the end just fix the damn issue that we all know is evident. We have had our fair share of bumps along the way so rest assured stick to your guns and before they get their last payment they will have no choice but to fix what needs fixing. I have since found out that they have also told some furphies in relation to the power point. It was not installed in the cupboard at all as Scott has checked and there is no sign of the power point at all!! Still no word on the windows or the poower point or the kitchen as of today. Anyway I won't be updating this thread until the end of the month as I am heading off on our 3 1/2 week holiday tomorrow and will more than likely not be able to post anything as we won't be having any internet except my mobile phone. If we happen to get some free wifi along the way and I get some pics sent from the kids I will post them, otherwise it will have to wait until I get back. The house will proably be finished and who knows they may have the keys by then too I will look forward to catching up on everyones builds when I get back as well, so hope all goes well with everyones!! Hope the weather is dry for everyone so the builds go up quickly!! See ya!! Re: Hickinbotham build progress - 6 weeks to go 166Oct 15, 2013 3:18 pm Hi Everyone, We are halfway through our 3 1/2 week holiday and things have been roaring along at the kids house and they have been given a date for next week for handover inspection!!!! OMG I can't believe that they may be in before we even get home!! Tiling is all done, but the kitchen is still not fixed I have told them to make sure to is done before they accept handover though. Hope is all going well with everyone's builds as I am sorry I can't catch up until we get back. I have managed to get some free internet so I could at least post about their update. Great to have some time away from dreaded work and the ho hum of life Anyway Scott's and Kelly's house has been inspected and there are still some things to be done which they have been assured will be done before official handover. Stormwater to road not done (they were given a date for yesterday for it to be done and we checked last night expecting it to be finished and it wasn't even started), bay window still not finished inside (needs to have the inside finishing done, whatever that means but you can see outside between the gaps in the windows!!), and there is a crack in the window sill around the bay window, handles haven't been put on any of the cupboards yet (I think this is odd as I would have thought the cabinetry would all be done at the same time), Garage door still not on. The cleaning of the place is terrible!!!! There are paint splatters on the bathroom benchtops, the quality of the painting is not the greatest in the kitchen, there is red dirt all over the stone benchtops in the kitchen, the windows are terrible, the bricks have not been cleaned off properly in places. They should be back cleaning it again I think. So a question to anyone is doing paving after handover. Scott was told, at final inspection, that because they aren't getting Hickies to do the paving, unless they get the slab sealed/waterproofed on the edges, their slab is not covered by any warranty. Does anyone know anything about this?? To me it sounds odd but I wouldn't have a clue as I would have thought the waterproofing/sealing would be done at the time of laying the slab. Anyway paperwork is on its way for final payment (which got lost in the post!!!! and have to resend it now) and they are waiting on the bank to release the cheque and do final valuation. They are hoping to be in next weekend!!! Quote: handles haven't been put on any of the cupboards yet (I think this is odd as I would have thought the cabinetry would all be done at the same time), Ahhh, I wrote to Hickies yesterday about that. I gave them a rough sketch of what I wanted, but I wanted to make sure the handles on the overheads were placed at the bottom so that I can reach them. Haven't heard back yet, but if they are done last hopefully I'll have a chance to make sure they go where I want them. Quote: Garage door still not on. Not sure, but I think this is almost the very last thing they do. Quote: The cleaning of the place is terrible!!!! How can the slab not be warrantied? Everyone has to have something put down, don't they? How does one go about waterproofing the side? We are having Hickies do the paving at the front, but the rest wasn't an option and we're planning on having that done by the landscaper. All advice welcome on this. They are hoping to be in next weekend!!! Don't pay until everything has been resolved to their satisfaction. Once they have the money (I don't mean just Hickies, but "they" in general regardless of what you're paying for) it's much harder to get things fixed if they don't measure up to what it should. Next weekend ... wow! the time went so fast. Do you have some more pics? Re: Hickinbotham build progress - Keys? 176Oct 25, 2013 12:43 pm Hi Lucinda, I don't have any pics as yet as we only went and looked last night. Scott is still able to "sneak" into the house through a window due to it not being finished yet. The cleaning is terrible and it was done Monday before their inspection with the Supervisor (the first time they have met him and actually talked to him!) No more yet on the slab but I will see if I can get anymore info as to me it doesn't seem right but this was what the Supervisor told him. The garage door was delayed as the girl who did the selections noted the colour they wanted but forgot to note the profile and didn't even ask and Scott also didn't realise it missed. It's really good having you there sharing Scott's experiences. Helps get me ready for what might be coming. Re: Hickinbotham build progress - Keys? 178Oct 25, 2013 1:03 pm glad that scott and kelly will be getting keys shortly it is weird that the cupboard door handles are yet to be put on, it could be for theft. the gas hot water and stove and oven dont normally go in til day of keys or day before. as for the cleaning, are you sure they are not coming back to do more? the cleaner was at our house several times. it wont be a perfect clean but shouldnt be red dust etc. fingers crossed that all the issues get resolved quickly so scott and kelly can move in. ahhh Christmas at their house. Re: Hickinbotham build progress - Keys? 179Oct 25, 2013 5:40 pm It is weird the handles aren't on but it is weird the hot water system is already installed too, the oven is in but not connected, no stove top yet either, the dishwasher is in the box but it is a far inferior one than what was offered in the "upgrade" , the garage door is another issue as Gliderol are not even answering the pleas from the builder to contact either themselves or Scott to see what is the hold up and it was ordered 7 weeks ago according to the Site Supervisor, the issue with the bay window is partially fixed today and stormwater was done today!! There hasn't been any mention about another clean so might get Scott to request another clean as it is so dirty. My son and his fiance's build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66084 24/7 Slabbed 30/7 Framed 05/8 Gutters 08/8 Roof & windows 31/8 gyprock, bricks, cornice 3/9 Lock up 8/11 In Re: Hickinbotham build progress - Keys? 180Oct 25, 2013 7:20 pm joane ... the dishwasher is in the box but it is a far inferior one than what was offered in the "upgrade" The promo one is apparently delivered in the box and up to the owner to install after handover so if they were down for the promo, they might end up with two--the promo one and the "real" one. But check to make sure they haven't made a mistake and delivered the wrong one. The "real" one should be Electrolux. If all those things are not done in time for handover, I would be asking for handover to be delayed until the items are in and working, unless it would mean Scott and Kelly losing money on accommodation until it is ready. 8 6138 5 6813 Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 7 17598 |
