We have had our keys since July 16 and we are still getting work fixed by construction 9 months later as well as the 90 day maintenance. We had our bricks cleaned where they had been replaced almost 6 months ago (this was a job done by construction) again nothing covered including our outdoor tv everything was wet he was not even meant to clean there, we had the maintenance team here the same day he even ruined the skirting they were meant to put back in our bedroom even the maintenance team could not believe the lack of care this fellow Masterton tradie had. The plumber got about half a bucket full of tilers rubbish out of our ensuite drain, and a similar amount out of the main bathroom drain. You would think after M get a few (at least!) customers having this problem, and M having to send out plumbers to get it fixed at M's cost, maybe they need to set (and enforce) required standards. And that goes for all of their trades. Surely if one of the tradies gets 3 strikes, maybe they don't get employed anymore? You would think quality employees is something they should be aiming for. Hope everything else is going ok, Marina! I have never had a tradie (M or otherwise) not offer to remove their shoes when coming in. I would be emailling M with pics and express absolute disgust with how your homes were treated. It may not get you anywhere, but they should at least acknowledge and apologise. I've only had one tradie say he couldn't take it off and that was the one that had to smash the mirror off to replace it. He made sure his shoes were clean though I'm so over Masterton not getting back to me, maintenance are just as awful as everything else! Customer service also don't do anything. Our ss has said he will change the mixture as it was clearly not the colour we want...and the parts already done will be painted/stained over to match the rest. Not sure what the technical term is for painting mortar. MartinsHarmony Wow jol0, that does look purple. Maybe it looks different in different light? What did it look like in person? Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 13668Apr 21, 2017 8:12 am jol0 A quick query...did any of you have charcoal mortar for your brickwork? We have a bit of a situation where it looks like our mortar is almost purple against our brick. It's normally a lot darker when laid - true colour takes a couple of weeks to come through once it dries out. Ours wasn't charcoal so not sure what that's supposed to look like when wet. Mortar dyes apparently do work reasonably well (don't know first hand), but might depend on quality of product used and worth asking if they're permenant or require periodic reapplication Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 13671Apr 24, 2017 4:04 pm We've had a string of sunny days ... after ALL THAT rain it's been so nice to see things happening and I'm really thrilled with how the facade taking shape. M had the gall to send us a 'rain day' notice for the day our down pipe installation was due. I guess they are trying to save $50 now that we are 8 weeks over contract. Here's an idea M, just get our house finished! The first coat of paint has been done, laundry and bathroom tiles have been grouted and the fuse box installed. I've heard the build goes pretty quickly after lock-up, but i'm still seeing the same old slow pace. Oh and yes, naturally with all the nice dry warm weather, the down pipes are still not installed. A cynical person may think that M just has someone watching the weather charts and then picking a random item off of the 'still to do list' before cranking out a rain day notice... Building our first home with M and we have our colour selection appointment coming up. Kind of undecided on whether we should go with porcelain tiles or timber flooring. The contract has allowance for both. It's our choice now. We don't have kids yet and are told that it will be difficult to maintain wooden flooring once we have kids. So, leaning towards tiles. What do you people think? Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 13677Apr 26, 2017 8:06 am BuildThatThing Hi guys... The contract has allowance for both. It's our choice now. We don't have kids yet and are told that it will be difficult to maintain wooden flooring once we have kids. So, leaning towards tiles. What do you people think? If you go for timber you need to consider the cost of upkeep such as sanding back and polishing, marks and dents etc. We are building a 2 storey design and while we love timber flooring, we are having tiles downstairs (we are doing after handover) and laminate upstairs. Although not very glamorous in terms of types of flooring, laminate has come a long way in terms of believability and finish. It's also much, much more resilient than timber and can be replaced board by board if there is damage. We do have a toddler though and seeing my parents timber floors marked, chipped, dented within hours of being laid, we knew It wouldn't work for us. Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 13678Apr 26, 2017 10:45 am Hi BuildThatThing, Welcome to the building journey! Where abouts are you building? What house design are you building? We are building a single story house and we've selected tiles throughout (bedrooms and theatre room carpet). Timber floors are really popular at the moment, but I prefer the look and ease of tiles, so it was an easy choice for me. My other half really likes timber floors but I've never been super keen. The maintenance and ease of scratching are the main pitfalls for me. Cleaning timber also bugs me (what you can and can't use, wipe marks). We have three kids (ages 7, 4, 4) and for toughness and durability I don't think you can beat tiles. I find tiles easier to keep clean with kids and I'm not concerned how or what they play with on tiles. You will have to accept though, with tiles if you drop something, 9 times out of 10 the dropped item will break. Lots of people also comment that tiles are cold. I guess it depends where you live and if that's a concern. Sevenths, we have 3 phase power down through the wall & underground to the private pole. If I were you I would insist they fix whatever the problem is. I've found Tradies will present the easiest option for them as being the only solution until you push them hard to do it the right way. BuildThatThing, we went with tiles because the wooden floors mark so easily , it's not just kids who do damage , general use which will scratch it. If you want wooden floors get used to rubbing walnut into the scratches each week or be prepared to live with that 'lived on and loved' look to the floors. Sandra, thanks . We're hanging on for the day this will all be done.
