If you need to, get M to increase your provisions in the tender for things like additional fill/spoil removal, storm water, sewerage. There's an adage in building, that you never really know the cost until you are out of the ground. Thanks again for your input. We are building a duplex in Sydney's Inner West and I cannot believe how slow our build has been. Other project homes in our area that started after us have finished! We commenced in September 2016 with the slab and we are still not at lock up. We are onto our 6th Site Supervisor! We've had to push to get a mould inspection done due to damage caused by not having a roof for months and months leading to the replacement of some materials and mould remediation down the track. My question is, has anyone had any luck escalating their issues with management? What are our options now? It's so frustrating! We had Mr Masterton the owner and the son speak to us directly, that being said none of it fixed the build time just some issues with our bathroom design that they stuffed up. So the only other option is probably fair trading. I don't know if Masterton react differently whilst they are still in the process but definitely get their act together after keys. Unfortunately this is the joy of dealing with these clowns. Good luck Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 14227Oct 06, 2017 5:48 pm Well we have officially pulled out of our duplex build. It cost us 10K but rather that than 900k. We just lost trust in Masterton, they were so cagey with sharing extra costs, contract clauses, delays etc. I even had the sale consultant tell me certain things on the phone and that he wouldn't reply to those specific questions i highlighted in my email. We don't have the luxury of being able to stay in parents accommodation for an extra 12 months if needed nor do we have any extra 10% buffer to use. In addition to that all the Masterton builds in our area have remained static for the last 3 months due to site supervisors resigning, which our Sales consultant didn't disclose when i asked him about the houses with minimal activity. As others have said, im sure the end product will be good enough eventually, we just cant accept all the unknowns. Good luck all. Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 14228Oct 09, 2017 11:23 am Hi pommie, That's quite a big decision, i hope you find another builder that you can put your faith in. Had we known our build was going to take 2 years we may have gone with someone else. Jol0, I've had a 'full and frank' discussion with the landscaper. The engineer came back with an additional retaining wall and the landscaper took the opportunity to add a few more 'suggestions'. IMHO the whole building industry will try to gouge as much as they can out of customers. MartinsHarmony, congrats! Good luck with the landscaping. What items are expected to be outstanding at handover? What is considered reasonable? We had pci last week and our SS has booked in the final walkthrough/inspection on 25 October before handover. At pci we had a number of things outstanding apart from the standard paint and gyprock fixs. For example, Masterton has yet to put in the roof/pergola to our front entry. This was listed at pci as outstanding. I was following up with the SS today to confirm we are still on track for final inspection and he advised yes we are but that the front roof may still be oustanding at handover. He is aiming to have it completed but is not 100% certain. Is it expected that at handover there will be items outstanding? And if so, is there a timeframe for Masterton to fix it? Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 14230Oct 12, 2017 1:26 pm The only things that should be outstanding are appliances and minor fixes. Anything major - like your missing roof need to be completed prior to Handover. Once you have made your final payment they can (an in my experience do) take their own sweet time in fixing issues. M took 2 months to complete our appliances install, which was supposed to only take a couple of days. I'm not a fan of the 'we will try to complete the work' calls from the SS. Why can't he tell you, he's the one booking in the tradies. I can’t imagine major building work would be outstanding and still get PCI. If it’s a minor item or defect that wouldn’t stop you using the space, like a paint patch not completed I imagine that wouldn’t hold up PCI. Hope this helps and I’d push your SS to ensure everything is closed out. Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 14232Oct 16, 2017 9:44 am Morning all, it's been awhile but we are finally in our validation period. So building to commence soon Can anyone advise when the SS is meant to introduce themselves to us? We are 10 days into the VP. So am eager for an update. Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 14233Oct 18, 2017 7:52 am Our first clean was done yesterday! Hopefully not too much longer to PCI. Kly525, good luck on your build. My advice is never wait for the SS to get in touch - reach out to him when ever you need to. You're the customer! Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 14236Oct 18, 2017 2:25 pm Thanks Gibson and Sevenths. We have told Masterton that we want the big items completed for handover. Unfortunately this has meant our handover is postponed. But at least we get piece of mind that it will be completed. More a matter of when. Hopefully not too long, as we want landscaping to start befote xmas...fingers crossed. Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 14237Oct 18, 2017 11:08 pm Hi All I’m building the Masterton Synergy 29 in Denham Court and my build start date is getting nearer with expectation to start on 26/11/2017. After reading a few comments about builds taking so long, I wanted to get some recent feedback from anyone who has noticed improvements in building times with Masterton. I’m on a bridging loan and worried if the build goes massively over time. Two years, surely is an unreasonable time frame! I expect my home to be completed in the number of days suggested in the contract. If anyone can share what Masterton is currently doing with building times that would be wonderful. Thankyou. We are in our 10th month of the build and the exterior is incomplete. Our contract stated a finish of November 2017 (excluding rain days which when added take us up to December). However this is impossible unless every trade known was working on our house everyday. And this just isn't happening. We've accepted we won't be in until most likely close to easter (that's if I'm being optimistic). Your site supervisor will make all the difference in how everything progresses. We have a new one that's just started. He's our third. I'm hoping he will turn things around and get it back on track. But overall, please be prepared for delays and budget and time things appropriately.
