Building our first home with M and we have our colour selection appointment coming up.
Kind of undecided on whether we should go with porcelain tiles or timber flooring. The contract has allowance for both. It's our choice now. We don't have kids yet and are told that it will be difficult to maintain wooden flooring once we have kids. So, leaning towards tiles. What do you people think?
If you go for timber you need to consider the cost of upkeep such as sanding back and polishing, marks and dents etc. We are building a 2 storey design and while we love timber flooring, we are having tiles downstairs (we are doing after handover) and laminate upstairs. Although not very glamorous in terms of types of flooring, laminate has come a long way in terms of believability and finish. It's also much, much more resilient than timber and can be replaced board by board if there is damage. We do have a toddler though and seeing my parents timber floors marked, chipped, dented within hours of being laid, we knew It wouldn't work for us.
wow.. jol0 thanks for that. quite elaborate.... Do laminate flooring also come in different colors/shades? Are they dearer than timber?
