Quick update on our build so far! Our slab was poured on the 1st of October and the Christmas break was a long drawn out waiting game! Our SS so far has been fantastic, he's really busy but always responds quick and has been pretty flexible with us. Kitchen was meant to be installed last week and tiles late this week but I've read so many things about Don's that I'm getting nervous! Should i expect a delay? in regards to the kitchen, they are going to install it without tiling underneath which sounds odd to me? Should they be tiling before installing the kitchen? I've attached some pictures of where we're at! We're currently going through the process of finding people for driveways and landscaping...It is so unbelievable expensive if anybody has any recommendations feel free to throw them my way Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 9646Feb 15, 2016 12:39 pm We are getting a tender from M today and got one from another builder last week. great to be able to chat to others in the same boat but hearing some of the horror stories makes us very nervous. Looking to build an Overture Elite or Bohemia around 30-31sq Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 9647Feb 15, 2016 12:51 pm Hi Jcas24 We looked at M and another builder about 2 years ago. The other guys started out cheaper but once we got them up to the basic M spec they were $60k more expensive, so we went with M. All the volume builders work the same way, they do the designs & sales then sub-contract the build and fit out to suppliers and tradies. Everyone I've talked to who has previously built with M are very happy with the results, it just takes some effort to get through the build process. Will be interesting though as their bedrooms are on the same zone. I hedge bets on my daughter winning any temperature setting battles!! Smb – Unfortunately M don’t operate their kitchens that way. It was nearly a deal breaker for us as we really wanted the tiles laid first then the kitchen on top as do many other builders. Even after we signed the contracts we tried to get M to do it our way but it was knocked back. We figured if this was our forever home and we may want to change the configuration of our kitchen we couldn't do it easily as there are gaps in the tiles!! Nice pics Where are you building? Jcas24 – Welcome to the forum. I don’t believe that M are the worst of the volume builders, just maybe one of the longer running ones therefore our expectations are that they should know what they’re doing and be able to do it well and quickly. As others have said, you may need to help project manage the build if your SS is overworked or lazy. Good luck! We need to pay the final bill but we're waiting for Artline to credit something. Why, oh why is it such a hard job to do what seems like such a very simple thing... you charged me X amount of money to put on the kickboards after the tiles were laid but you didn't do that so refund me the X amount. Simples right? Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 9650Feb 15, 2016 2:16 pm My father in law built his own house and is on my back about these tiles being under the kitchen haha Atleast I know somebody else tried to change it and had no luck. My wife & I are building at Oran Park, it's been a long journey from when we purchased the land in December 2013! We've been told that we should be in the house at the beginning of April. I'm crossing my fingers and toes! Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 9651Feb 15, 2016 3:12 pm MartinsHarmony Anyone else had to submit a landscape plan with their DA? How closely are you expected to follow the landscape plan? Will depend on your development/council. Some are more strict than others. But generally speaking, they won't hold back your rebate if you decide on a different type of tree/plant etc, or even a design element, as long as it still meets the guidelines. $395 Fixed Priced Landscape Plans for DA M: 0435 127 244 | W: bluegumdesign.com.au | E: info@bluegumdesign.com.au Residential | Commercial | Industrial Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 9652Feb 15, 2016 3:27 pm Jcas24 We are getting a tender from M today and got one from another builder last week. great to be able to chat to others in the same boat but hearing some of the horror stories makes us very nervous. Looking to build an Overture Elite or Bohemia around 30-31sq We built the Overture Premier, and can highly recommend it. Most of the horror stories relate to the SS you get..... if you get one who has too many builds to manage, then they tend to (understandably) struggle. Our build was apparently some distance from all the others our SS was managing, so he wasn't keen on visiting our site! The tradies called him "drive-by", cause that's all he ever did! hahaha. That being said, the end product is wonderful and we love it. As to the problems that happen through-out the build (and we had our share!), I have friends who have built with other companies, and there are horror stories with them all. Good luck with your decision........ I hope you also love the end result! I knew the made mistakes on the final payment related to liquidation damage. We only got $3720 with 11 days bad weather. The job delayed around 4 months. can not wait anymore. Paid and hopefully get some refund later. I remember they should pay for the water and electricity during construction.how can it be right change extra $ 11.7 k for over tender date 3 months. Now I'm crying cause you probably spent so little compared to us!! Our cooktop was $3000 (minus sale discount) so you can imagine how much all up. Our motor for the rangehood is meant to be outside too. Hi Redwynne, where did you buy your kitchen stuff from? Winnings? And which rangehood did you end up getting? Which of the Sirius brand you're getting? I'm about to finalise my kitchen appliances selection and looking at Sirius as well. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 9657Feb 15, 2016 8:03 pm Welcome Jcas24 and nadicoop. For example, your condenser is 16 kw,you select 6 zones. If you only run too zones, the cooling load could only be 5Kws. But the minimum load for compressors is 8 kw or more. You not saving money by running two zones. Our installation is not good. I can see it will leak airs. I don't think the installation can achieve the AC design intend. $3900 deposit Oct 2013 5% April 14 Council submission May 14 DA Aug 14 CC Oct 14 Demo Oct 2014 Dec 2014 Slab 15 Sep 2015, roof tiles finished 16 Feb 16 keys Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 9659Feb 16, 2016 9:21 am smb My father in law built his own house and is on my back about these tiles being under the kitchen haha Atleast I know somebody else tried to change it and had no luck. I'm crossing my fingers and toes! Fowler or Wisdom (can’t remember which one) do the floor first then install the kitchen on top of it. Makes more sense that way but M must have their reasons for not doing it. We hated their method so much that we came up with the idea of installing the kickboards after the tiles and were willing to pay for the kitchen guys to come back out again to do it. It was in the kitchen quote and when it came to the crunch M didn't hold up their end of the bargain. At the time when we questioned it with our SS he said that his boss told him M don’t do it that way. Arielbj – You ask how can they charge $11.7k for being 3 months over tender… because they can and no one can stop them. And if you try to go to Dept of Fair Trading or similar then they’d hope that all the hoops you have to go through to try and get some money back would slow you down and eventually you'll give up trying. The building industry is unregulated so they can do whatever they want. I don’t understand how M can charge for fee increases when they are to blame and not the client. You live fairly close by to us so I would imagine the weather related delay days should be roughly the same. We had 4 all up, from the storm from hell in April last year. Congrats on getting the keys. G said we would get them first!! Nadicoop – Welcome!! And good luck. We paid $9k-10k for Nickel Flash. No idea which group it belongs to.
