That supplier will only use specific brands. We had the choice of Daikin and Actron Air. We went with Actron because it’s more energy efficient. We also wanted 6 zones and the wifi app. We defiantly could of went with something cheaper but it was something we were happy to spend the bigger dollars on for a larger more cost effective system. Double is expensive for air con and with electrical you have to get most of the bottom level done by M during the build. We done fairly basic stair case, similar to what Villinaeliters done. It was something that wasn’t that important for us over other upgrades MGardz – One of the first questions we asked our M sales lady was about the “free” aircon. We very quickly found out it was the oldest technology that was expensive to run and didn’t even service the house! Very deceptive of M Arielbj – I don’t know you’ve kept it together with this build!!! M told me that Actron was 30% more energy efficient than Daikin, is that not true? Depends on the patterns of your family's use of aircon. Of course commercial uses differ to residential and the size of your home and how you use it governs the choice to as well as budget https://mandgbuildatmulgoarise.wordpress.com/ Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 9528Feb 03, 2016 8:36 pm As someone who has been in their home for a few months over summer we have been very pleased with how cool the house stays during the day even when it's 40 degrees. So far the only time we have used our aircon this summer has been for an hour or so upstairs before we put the kids to bed. The upstairs does get a little warmer during the day but soon cools down. I don't think we have used it downstairs yet. We have still to do a winter here so can't comment on heating yet. I did a little research before our appointments and we went with the Actron brand. Daiken is probably the leader but Actron is an Australian company very reliable with very good service if it's needed. Suggest doing your research before the appointment as our aircon guy knew less than me which was a worry. I even sent him an Internet link to prove that Actron had a wifi controller for their units which he was arguing that they didn't!! The only good thing about him was he quoted us the wrong price in our favour to the tune of around $2000 which he had to honour as it was in writing Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 9529Feb 03, 2016 8:43 pm Another thing about the Actron outdoor unit is the fans are on the top rather than the side like most units. If your unit is close to a fence it makes it a lot more efficient than one which blows the air out sideways. Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 9530Feb 03, 2016 8:44 pm Disclaimer I don't work for Actron!! Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 9531Feb 03, 2016 10:22 pm About air con make sure the unit you select fits under the window if that is where they need to place it. BB maybe we had the same air con guy he didn't realise the unit we selected needed three phase power until slab was put down hence the reason the air conditioner is blocking the window view Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ still waiting to see who's claiming responsibility M wrote to air con company KDR. Our biggest ticket items were 38 light points at $2128 and 4 extra power circuit and extra safety switch for $1024 - umm way too much for our tiles - $11k for spotted gum staircase - $8k for kitchen and this included upgrade to UltraGlaze instead of Createc, Tall range (so long ago not even sure what this means!!), cabinets at the back of island bench, drawers under the ovens, wast bin system, and glass cabinets above the overhead cabinets to minimise the bulkhead as we have over 3m ceilings After building with M I personally believe you get what you pay for. We were quite keen in a Fowler home and thought it would be too expensive but it probably wasn't. For example they use Caesarstone and well known brand appliances (I think Smeg?). M have been around for 50 years... they should be pioneers... leaders in moving forward! To give a M house character and make it look good, I think we need to put money aside to upgrade, but also what modern house can live with one powerpoint per room!??! I suspect to entice buyers to use them they make their list price cheap and you need to fork out extra to bring up to modern standards. Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 9533Feb 04, 2016 10:21 am Oh forgot to add heaps of other upgrades that are in the tenders, for example, stone upgrades for our bathrooms, stone splashback that goes up and behind the exposed rangehood, $9k for bricks. We also went for taller doors including wardrobe, built ins (except for ours) in lieu of WIR, and our alfresco cost us a bomb as it's double the size of what's on display. Other expenses, besides landscaping, that don't involve M include hiring an electrician to install the lights and our appliances, timber flooring upstairs, Ventis system, tiling on alfresco, carpet in two rooms including installing plywood in the theatre room as it was too low compared to the tiled hallway. Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 9534Feb 04, 2016 10:56 am Edmondss - Your first week doesn't sound very good. Hopefully M will fix the issues asap. Rox82 - Nice bathroom, definitely doesn't look like a project home type!! Villinaeliters - I'm not sure about us being sophisticated as much as M still living in the dark ages with their design and internal fitouts. We've moved with the times, I think M are still sleeping in the 90's!! I too bought magazines for ideas, looked at Houzz and watched reno shows. BTW you have mail from me. Hopefully I have the right email address as I haven't heard back for a while. S-VE - Do Artline now have itemised quotes? I have no idea how much each component is for our quote. We had to ask them and they did after we persisted but still. M haven't upgraded a lot of their stuff for years and years so it doesn't surprise me that the air con they offer is archaic especially with today's technology electrical stuff improves all the time. They still offer the Santorini tiles and have for years! MMeadows - We haven't moved in the house yet (that's a sore point) but I've looked at our lights above the bench. I don't think they are very useful as they light up the splashback and the back part of the benchtop the most. As they are installed in the middle of the cupboards above and these cupboards don't span over the whole bench, they don't look like they light up the areas that need it the most. I told M I wasn't happy with that and if I'd have known I would've moved the lights in the ceiling over more towards the bench to make up for the lack of light there. Time will tell if they do the job well. Arielbj - I dunno, looks like it's neck and neck for the race line. I know G is thorough but enough already. We're sooo over the wait. Apparently the house was meant to be cleaned yesterday or today but we still haven't had our final walk through. Now 4 months over contract. It's costing us a fortune and M aren't paying compensation any more. marina12 - I've been wondering about your air con issue. In my opinion the air con dudes should've looked at it and said they can't install it because the little slab it sits on is in the wrong spot and it would block your view out the window. I'm sure I have seen one of those units at my work, in the garden blocking nothing! Can you get the wifi app for the air con after handover or would it be too difficult/costly? The upgrade cost you much more than it should be. The cost between same type of actron is $1 200, from 14 kw to 18 kw but they could change you $1800. . I asked actron sales how did you make the system run more efficient?it that through pressures control in duct work temperature control at return air, he said it is trade secret, only few people in Actron knew it. He could not convinced me that is better products. As Bob said, if you are nsw around cosat area. It is not worth to upgrade to fancy ones. The important thing is do not put outdoor unit under the direct sun, it will reduce the capacity dramatically. 2015 Actron price list if anyone interested.
