Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 6944Aug 31, 2015 12:48 am redwynne Our story to date… this week the tiler has been busy laying cement for the tiles in the main area downstairs and he should start on Monday laying them. Air con dudes were there yesterday doing their stuff. Yesterday our SS tells us to take our IXL fans (we've paid for this installation) and kitchen pendant lights ("talk to them to see if they'll do it for you", we haven't paid for this) to the house today as the electricians will be there. So hubby goes to Auburn first thing to pick up IXL fans and I go to the lighting shop and pick up the lights. So over the building bureaucracy... Apparently their boss told them not to do the work as they were paid to do the old fashion IXL fans, not the ones we bought… Hubby called the SS and left a message but no response. Oh and they didn't have time to install the pendants so basically a huge waste of our time today running around Sydney. We also went shopping for the house so it was an expensive day to say the least… retail therapy from all the M BS. Oh forgot to mention, I talked to the electricians about the positioning of the splashback powerpoints. One said yeah they're supposed to be in the corners. The other kinda looked a little baffled but he pointed the finger to the boss, blaming him as he did those ones. He also explained that they have to place them near/next to the wall frames. I looked at the lights in the ceiling and said that this one is too close to the wall and shouldn't be there. He says but that's the way it is in the plans and his boss has told them to install lights as per plan. So I told him that the splashback ones haven't been done to plan and if they are going to deviate from the plan so much then they should ask us what's our preference as I hate it the way it currently is. So even M's tradies say "we have to do this as it's in the plan" then when there is a screw ups we get excuses. You should see the way they "measure" where the lights go *boggle* Have you guys changed positions of lights using M's electricians or after handover, especially in the downstairs area? Redwynne i get depressed reading your posts .... And it is all yr SS's fault .... Who you get is such pot luck & you got majorly unlucky. There are no measurements on M electrical plans (which are also not to scale!) so it is really up to the individual M electrician to space things out according to the number of lights you have chosen & the size of the room etc. An M electrician can never say to you "i have done what is on the plan" in response to a query about distances! if they are good ... Should be simple ... If they are hopeless/careless, not simple! Our M electrician put our kitchen island pendants in too close together (incorrectly placed), we told our Ss & our SS got the electrcian back in to move them. So we got lucky. Our electrician also saw fit to move a hallway light (in front of stairwell) that we had deliberately lined up with the 3 other hallway lines on the electrical plan .... He moved it closer to the stairs .... I met him onsite & he said to me "i did it because it is better to illuminate the bottom of the stairs ... " ... I felt like saying "listen mate, i decide what's best for my house, where i want fittings, not you!" Got that changed too ! So .... My advice redwynne is to make them change it now (super easy to do ... They simply patch up the old holes ... We had 6 holes to be patched). Just say ... Not on our plans (not to scale) & we want it moved (insert apprpriate swear word!). Same re powerpoint ... They have occasional issues due to beams ... But your splashback one sounds like it got put on the wrong side of the beam. Is it a glass or tiled splashback? Tiles = easy fix .... Glass a bit trickier (ie more expensive!). I would still insist though if it will annoy you for the next 20 years!!! 2013 1st tender 24/10 Dep. 18/11 2014 5% 25/02 CDC approval 5/5 Demo 26/5 Pool 3/7 Valid'n 10/7 Slab 11/8 Frame 19/9 Bricks 23/10 2015 Roof 3/12 Lock up 11/2 PCI 31/3 Final insp. & keys 30/4 Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 6945Aug 31, 2015 12:09 pm We had a similar issue with a power point which was placed in a different place to the plans due to a steel post that was in the way. I'm glad people understand because I can be fussy and I like stuff to be done right... I suspect most of us do especially when looking at so much money being spent. Our SS said the lights would be moved when we said they're too close to the wall. We also asked for a couple more lights along the hallway as we have a bulkhead which we didn't know about but only one light in that space... and it's not even in the middle. He said it should be ok and it would have to be on the same switch as the existing one. How do SS's remember everything? They don't take a notebook and he's managing a couple of dozen builds?? We're seeing our SS this week. We'll see what he says then. The powerpoints... well we don't have tiles or glass... worse and more expensive still... stone. We carried through our benchtop up along the wall. Still think they should fix it?? I reckon the safest bet would be to check with the owners when placing holes into an expensive wall especially if placed differently from the plan or is my mathematical mind taking the logic too far here??? Check out the picture below... yeah I reckon it could've been placed on the other side of beam or if that's too hard don't install it at all. Does anyone have a gap between their kitchen bulkhead and their kitchen cupboards? We had a look at our kitchen this weekend and noticed this. I hate it! I thought the idea of a bulk head over the kitchen cupboards was so that there is no gap to have to clean above them. I need some moral support/advice from the group before approaching SS about it (technically not meant to have been into the house but someone left a door unlocked). It should show you if there's a strip of material between the cupboard and the bulkhead which in that case I'd argue they close the gap between the cupboard and the builders bulkhead. Ours was raised to meet the builders bulkhead and says as such on the plans https://mandgbuildatmulgoarise.wordpress.com/ Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 6950Aug 31, 2015 6:46 pm Brooke1482 Possible bulk head dilemma.... Brooke1482 reading yourpost is like deja' vu for me 12 months back ... Their are 2 types of bulkhead .... Builders bulkhead (M standard) made of gyprock, installed by gyprocker & there is a shadow line/gap between bulkhead & kitchen cabinetry .... Or an "artline" bulkhead made with MDF & installed by the kitchen company & no shadow line between bulkhead & kitchen cabinetry! We asked for the second, it was specified on all our artline documents, but M went & put in the std builders bulkhead anyway & it took a month of back & forth between M & artline to get the original one ripped out & artline back to do the MDF one. However, They did a pretty crappy job at covering up holes/painting when they pulled out the old one & put in the new ... I almost wish i had left the old one in!!! However i seem to recall when i was complaining last year, everyone had a slightly different version ... I think it depends on the house you have & the kitchen modifications you have made. Check both your kitchen plans/tender & yourconstruction plans .... The answer (& solution) should be in them somewhere!!! 2013 1st tender 24/10 Dep. 18/11 2014 5% 25/02 CDC approval 5/5 Demo 26/5 Pool 3/7 Valid'n 10/7 Slab 11/8 Frame 19/9 Bricks 23/10 2015 Roof 3/12 Lock up 11/2 PCI 31/3 Final insp. & keys 30/4 Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 6951Aug 31, 2015 7:11 pm Brooke1482 Possible bulk head dilemma.... As Villinaeliters said, a lot depends on which house/kitchen design you have. We went with the standard M bulkhead, which did seem to have a gap during the build process like you mentioned, but when its finished, I think it looks fine. http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/zz241/GillyM63/IMG_1639_zpsfztiqvpv.jpg what stage is your kitchen fitout up to? If it's not to plan, then they should fix it and if that means replacing the stone, then that's what they have to do. When they installed our kitchen island benchtop, they installed our water filter on the wrong side of the sink (I had specified that I wanted it on the left hand side, and they put it on the right hand side). In so doing, they had drilled a hole through the stone. SS checked the plans, and told Artline they had to replace the benchtop. And they did. If only the tradies actually read the plans, not just assumed they know what we want! To recap 8 weeks after PCI they finally replaced 15 panes of glass last week. The bad news is they replaced 7 panes that didn't need doing leaving us with 7 that are still damaged! Some good news though. The painters worked on Saturday morning to repaint the trim around the eaves which was transparent it was so thin. The bad news? They used paint that is a different shade to the eaves so they need to come and do it again!! Im not talking a slight shade difference here it's quite noticeable so when you realise you have the wrong paint why on earth would you continue painting? Its unbelievable it really is. This extra mains tap is not on the plans nor did we ask for it but in hindsight could be a good thing if ever you need fresh water. Does the tank water go through a filter anyone??
