Split systems are cheaper than ducted and personally i don't like the split system units. Personally id go ducted refrigeration with 5-7 zones. Having evaporative over refrigrerative boills down to a personal/financial choice. Evaporative is cheaper to install and run, but would be ineffective on super hot days like this in Melbourne as the water which gets pumped into the cooler isn't cold enough to generate cool air. The front the driveway and the front apron is in exposed agg (f19 mix) and plain concrete for the blind side of the house cost us ~$6700 (including widending the crossover extension by 1.5m) We used http://www.nathanporterconcreting.com.au/ for the job. hope this helps.
