Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Stormwater piping 3Jul 17, 2013 11:10 am Hi Ca6leguy, In our build installation of the rainwater tank did include piping of the overflow to the storm water system. However it wasn't done properly - pipes have been laid too high so it may end up having to be done again and I don't know at whose expense yet. Was installation of a rainwater tank included in your quote or contract? I would have thought installation would include piping of overflow but I'm no builder or expert. Hopefully somebody else will know more. Re: Stormwater piping 4Jul 17, 2013 11:28 am Liliana Hi Ca6leguy, Was installation of a rainwater tank included in your quote or contract? I would have thought installation would include piping of overflow but I'm no builder or expert. Yes, all piping from the gutter to the rainwater tank is included in the quote. But I was also expecting the connection of the overflow pipe from the tank to the storm water system to be also included. Is my assumption correct? Re: Stormwater piping 5Jul 17, 2013 11:33 am So has the tank already been installed with no overflow? That doesn't sound right. Have you tried ringing the Plumbing Industry Commission? I don't think you can install a rainwater tank with no provision for overflow; so it would have to be done at the time the rainwater tank was installed, not after by the owner. I'm in the planning stage and do not want to be caught by surprise after the built without overflow piping installed by the builder. I would have also thought that the connection of the overflow pipe should all be part of the package and not left for the owner to install after handover. Re: Stormwater piping 7Jul 17, 2013 11:53 am Good on you for thinking ahead. Yes, make sure that you clarify with them that stormwater piping will include piping of overflow from the tank to the stormwater system. The more detailed your quote is, the less room for confusion and nasty surprises afterwards. Never assume that anything is included because it "normally" is. Plumbers 'can be' plumbers, made all the worse by self certification which the building surveyor invariably accepts as proof of compliance!
