Our block of land is located on the high side of the street, is relatively flat but has a 1m grade from front to back across 34m. At our tender appointment last week we were told that we were going to need to cut and fill 259 TONNE of dirt which would cost us $9000. The plans state that there is to be 750mm excavated (from the back) and 450mm filled (at the front). My husband (who is a plumber) did some calculations and based on these numbers and the house plans, only 120 tonne of dirt would need to be cut and filled which is a huge difference to 259 tonne. A friend who does this kind of work has said $9000 is about the right price for such a large quantity of dirt removal but we are still baffled as to how they have come up with this figure. Has anyone had a similar experience?? We just had a pool dig and was told by our contractor the pool would need piers. They spoke to the engineer who advised the piers would need to be concrete.
