Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 16, 2013 6:13 am Hi Does architect charge for letter they have to submit to council in reponse to DA approval? Also, how much do they charge for minor change they have to make in DA plan after council raise any issues? My Architect charge me $350 for letter and $450 for dropping roof height to few mm when council raised an issue? Charging us $150 for each person he spoke to regarding DA approval. However, he never mentioned about it before that he would charge for it and now has sent us an invoice. He also has estimated $1500-2500 for CC Documents? Is this right? Re: New Building - Architect Fees 3Jul 16, 2013 7:35 am Did your architect not provide you with a schedule of fees? I am assuming that you are actually dealing with an architect and not a draftsperson? Completed a knock down and rebuild in northern Melbourne. Handover completed 27/09/2013 and now moved in. Re: New Building - Architect Fees 4Jul 16, 2013 7:47 am No my architect never provided me or mentioned any extra fees or schedule other than $5k we agreed on. We paid $5k for plan and he never mentioned anything about extra cost. I don't mind paying him but surprised as he is charging $150 for talking to any person eg..Person from Sydney Water though we are not aware of his conversation with him nor he mentioned that he would charges us like that. Re: New Building - Architect Fees 5Jul 16, 2013 8:37 am Fees for architectural services should be clearly set out and agreed to. Arbitrarily charging extra fees without having advised of the potential for these fees is extremely unprofessional. I would contact the Architects Registration Board for your state. If this is a registered architect he has a set of professional standards to adhere to. Completed a knock down and rebuild in northern Melbourne. Handover completed 27/09/2013 and now moved in. Re: New Building - Architect Fees 6Jul 16, 2013 9:31 am Now that we have to get our construction certificate documents from him, I am afraid to ruin any relationship with him as not sure if I can get it done somewhere else and would cost me more. Is $1500-2500 resonable for CC documents he is charging us on top of everything else? Re: New Building - Architect Fees 9Jul 16, 2013 12:03 pm I would be extremely unimpressed that I wasn't provided with a schedule of fees. Any person in a professional position like that charging amounts of money like that should provide one. It is like going to see a lawyer. We charge on the same kind of basis and would be in quite a bit of strife if we didn't provide a fee schedule. Obviously, an architect is a different profession but it seems absurd that they can just charge away with no notice of what the charges will be. He said he would charge us $5k and that's it. We had no idea how it works and I think my husband trusted him a lot..and now have an invoice charging $150 for each phone call or coversation he made with someone. Good lesson I learnt though...before signing big contract. I have no idea about CC documents.....PLEASE SOMEONE HELP for CC document cost!!!!!!!
