Good luck with the remaining 7 weeks! Mitchell is a great name.... *adds that one to the list* Alan and Thuy in Melbourne Building a second time! Re: We have some action...(new pics 24 August 2008) 24Aug 04, 2008 2:31 pm I love your house! We live on the bush right now, but are building 1 street over and we lose the bush surround. Your place is going to be great during summer with your wide verandah. (BTW whereabouts in Brisbane are you building? I have lots of friends and DH has lots of rellies there. ETA: Chapel Hill. Should have read the whole post first!)

Its like living among the trees, well done, it is just stunning! More rooms should have openings like this! Love your stairs, btw. We're having an open staircase too. I know they can be a bit more dangerous but I just love the look of them, besides, by the time we build, all our kids will have left home Oh, and bub is just gorgeous too. 'chelle We have a hand-over date...15/10...but I won't hold my breath! http://people-in-glass-houses.blogspot.com/ Re: We have some action...(new pics 24 August 2008) 32Aug 05, 2008 8:26 am Thanks again for all the positive feedback. We are really excited about the way it is turning out. The only problem we have is that any idea of a budget has been well and truly blown out of the water . We have basically decided that this is the house we want to live in for the next 10-15 years so we might as well get it the way we want it now.
Quote: Love the house....and love the fact that the floorboards are diagonal across the rooms....a unique (in a great way) feature The builders we have are fantastic and come up with some really good suggestions. It was actually their suggestion to lay the floorboards at an angle to match up with the deck boards. Seeing it down now it looks great. The builders apprentice built them as part of his apprenticeship assessment. We are actually going to be having an open staircase anyway and certainly know what you mean abou them being a bit more dangerous. This was something that we had to weigh up before deciding on the type of staircase we got. In the end we still went with the open staircase. Quote: Do you have a floorplan you can post??? (Just being a sticky beak ) I do have a flooplan available, but I'm just not sure whether I'm allowed to post it up because of copyright issues. We got the plans drawn by an architect, so I don't really know where I stand with putting these up on the web. Any thoughts? Well it has been a couple of weeks again and it's got to the time in the build where things seem to start to slow down. There is still a lot happening, but it's just all the finishing touches at the moment. Not too much big stuff has happened, hence the lack of photos. That was until now! In the last week a couple of the major features of the external of the house have been put in place. These are the large pivot front door and the large feature wall at the front of the house. We are really happy with both, although we would have rather had a larger front door as drawn on our plans, but this came back to the budget. It would've been quite a bit more expensive to have this custom made rather than the standard sized door we ended up with. Also, our bathrooms and laundry have bee tiled (some photos are below). This has caused us a bit of grief as well. We specically purchased tiles that would allow the grout lines to match up from the floor to the wall tiles. I the main bathroom (aka the kids bathroom) we went with a gloss 200x200 white tile on the wall and a matt 200x200 tile on the floor. It was only after the tiler had laid the floor tiles that we found out the the tiles are not all exactly 200x200! hence the grout lines don't match up in this bathroom. After a bit of back and forth it seems that not all tiles are created equal! It is proving more trouble than it's worth to try and get this resolved with the right tiles, so we are just going to live with it. The only saving grace is that it's not in our downstairs bathroom or ensuite. Anyway, here are some more pics. I hope you enjoy.... This is our ensuite bathroom after tiling. We have 300x300 tiles on the floor and 300x600 tiles on the walls. It's tiles all the way to the ceiling. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ and this is the kids bathroom. We went for something simple here with the white 200x200 tiles broken up by a diamond of coloured glass tiles. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Ac couple of pictures of our front door. One is looking from outside and the other from the inside. We went for the opaque glass in the door for privacy. If not we would've been able to sit in our lounge and look through the front door, through our neighbours glass front door and into their lounge! I find these type of houses truly inspirational. Just the outlook and the surounding trees makes your home very special. For me it is the openess of each room because of the windows and angles, your architect had done an amazing job. Cant wait to see your kitchen. Keep on posting more pics...
