Browse Forums Building A New House Re: We have some action...(new pics 24 August 2008) 16Jul 16, 2008 8:41 pm That is looking great!! I love the stacking doors and how they open up a whole corner of your room to the deck. I also love how close you are to the trees. I am jealous because you have established trees around you, and a pool too!! Well done!
Els Re: We have some action...(new pics 24 August 2008) 17Jul 16, 2008 8:59 pm WOW! I love it. Love the angles in the roof. Love the setting.
Were you allowed to keep those trees so close to your house? Jealous. We're building on a semi-bush block, but have to remove most of the trees within a 20m radius of the house because of bushfire risk...mind you I'd prefer to chop the trees rather than lose the house in a bushfire. 'chelle We have a hand-over date...15/10...but I won't hold my breath! http://people-in-glass-houses.blogspot.com/ Re: We have some action...(new pics 24 August 2008) 18Jul 17, 2008 8:39 am Thanks heaps for all the positive feedback.
We were really lucky to find this block of land, and only 10 km's from the City in Chapel Hill. This block was in a private sub division and was 1400sqm in size, however the building area was only 390sqm. Anything outside the building area is protected so as far as I am aware we can't cut down any trees. The biggest hurdle with the building area was making sure we were 10m set back from the centre line of a creek that runs through the property. We had a look at quite a few houses from bulk builders, but always felt that we were compromising on the design, particualry with the block of land we had. We ended up going with an architect who came up with a great design with lots of input from DW and I. We then got really lucky with our builders who have been absolutely fantastic the whole way through the process. We meet every Saturday on site with them to go through what has happened and any queries from both sides. They have had a few suggestions, which have always been well thought out. We love the roof lines on the house, they are really interesting. BuilderPete, this is a 5 degree pitch. This made it a bit tricky to get the AC units in the roof space, but they managed in the end. We probably won't need the AC too much as the trees provide a lot of shade and should hopefully keep it nice and cool. We will be meeting again on site this weekend, by which time the gyprock should be up inside. It will be great to get a true perspective of the house and rooms at last. Anyway, I will try and keep it updated a bit more frequently now as more things start to take shape. Stu Re: We have some action...(new pics 24 August 2008) 20Aug 04, 2008 2:08 pm Time for another update......
In the last couple of weeks the builders have just about finished the deck out the back, the plastering has all been done, wooden floors downstairs have been done, cornices and architraves done, and internal doors are on. Here are some more pics of the progress.... Here is the whole reason why we are doing this. Here is my wife Nicole and our 6 month old son Mitchell with me. We are out the front of the house in front of our fancy temporary front door. http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg96/stuart_cross/House052600x800.jpg Next we have a couple of shots from the back showing the deck and the flow into the house. This is going to be a great spot to entertain during the summer months. I can't wait to get a BBQ out here and start using it. http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg96/stuart_cross/House084600x800.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg96/stuart_cross/House085800x600.jpg Now inside the house we have a shot looking towards the media room. We are going to be getting some nice wooden cavity sliders here as a bit of a feature. Should look great once done. http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg96/stuart_cross/House087800x600.jpg Looking back from near the medai room towards where the kitchen os going to be. It is going to be a big kitchen and should look pretty sleek and modern http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg96/stuart_cross/House089800x600.jpg This is the ensuite bathroom from our main bedroom. As you can see it has been waterproofed, so we are ready for tiling this week. We are having a long shower in the corner with a rain shower in the middle and then a standard showerhead at one end. http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg96/stuart_cross/House098600x800.jpg These are the doors we finally decided upon. Nicole really liked the 3 lines down the door. They look really good now that they are in place. http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg96/stuart_cross/House107600x800.jpg And finally a shot from near the front door looking towards the back on the house. You can just about make out the wooden floors in some of these shots. They obviously still need to be poliched up, but I guess that will be one of the last things to happen. You might also be able to tell that they have been laid at an angle. This was done to be at the same angle as the deck to enable greater flow from inside to out. It also is a bit unusual and looks great. http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg96/stuart_cross/House108800x600.jpg Apparently we are now on the countdown to finish with only 7 weeks until handover. We are well and truely over living in our rental and can't wait to get in. Stu Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder. We also had idea of building duplex instead and seeking suggest ions. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=106744 11 13843 Hi VK, Think it's worth investing time in an Owner Builder course to equip you with basic knowledge on Australian Building Industry and its regulations.
