Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Rawson Homes - Our dream home journey - Metford 28 Trend 1581Feb 20, 2015 12:54 pm Rico, congrats on the progress. Looks like we are at a similar stage. We had the slab poured before Christmas. Frame started going up this week. Our SS has promised a walkthrough once the frame is complete. Did anyone get an independent inspection & report done at frame stage? We will definitely do one at handover but wondering whether it's worthwhile getting one at frame stage to pickup on issues earlier in the piece. Or things that may be hidden or too far gone at handover? Re: Rawson Homes - Our dream home journey - Metford 28 Trend 1582Feb 24, 2015 8:50 am at the avenue Hi Rico, we are building in schofields. We started around August too, we are just about done, finally. 4-6 weeks to go. Fingers crossed you can sort out that step. Keep on them. We had an issue we raised just after the slab pour and still haven't had a response on(despite regularly asking for an update). So how many weeks was your build in total? I know they have 30 weeks plus rain days but I am really hoping that it won't take that long!!! Re: Rawson Homes - Our dream home journey - Metford 28 Trend 1583Feb 24, 2015 1:14 pm AddyGirl Hi everyone, Quick questions, we are at framing stage - almost complete. We haven't met our SS yet. We have noticed a few things wrong like the pipes for the kitchen island bench are almost 1 metre from where they should be (not under bench) and some incorrect door heights etc - should we advise the SS or wait until we meet with him on site? (worried about the fact that we have gone on site etc even though the fence isn't even shut let alone locked. Also, when did everyone receive their first progress payment request? Thanks I'd tread carefully Addygirl, I noticed similar things with pipe work... If you can see it from the fence line then just question it... I constantly brought up the fact our site wasn't locked, we weren't allowed on for health and safety but it was open so anyone else could walk on...me raised it because if anyone got hurt it was Rawsons fault and could shut down our build. I went on site once at the request of a trade because the didn't have plans and I was threatened by Rawson with a breach notice. Our SS didn't like to be questioned about things, so I went over his head and had a meeting. With him & his boss to clear up my expectations ... From then on he was great and delivered us a dream house Re: Rawson Homes - Our dream home journey - Metford 28 Trend 1584Mar 12, 2015 3:26 am Hie everyone. Its been a while since I posted on this forum .I had other things going on for the past few months. Its good to see that everyone's build is going well. Now back to my build , i am expecting handover in 4 weeks time☺☺☺. I have a question to those who have finished building.Did you get an independent building inspector at the end of the build? I would appreciate if you have any building inspector who you can recommend. I will posts some photos of my house. Its been a long journey. I know they have 30 weeks plus rain days but I am really hoping that it won't take that long!!! We are about week 34 now. I think our contract period was 40 weeks give or take a few (I imagine this would be shorter for a single)..we just had PCI this week and Handover is confirmed for 30 march which will be around 40 weeks. A lot longer than we ever expected... If you factor in the Christmas period and rain delays I guess they could take longer if they wanted. Based on experience I don't think it would be worth arguing with rawson about time frames and the contract, it would be a lot of time and effort from us with little gain.. I know some people who managed to get their rent covered if the contract period isn't met, we tried for this but rawson denied this request. I think we get about $50 a week if we are over the contract period... We will be in soon so not too worried about this. Has anyone had issues with the quality of workmanship or issues with the slab? I'm not sure if I should get an independent inspector to come out. I have heard some stories from other people building and I'm just a little concerned. How exciting, we are building the Cabarita 28 in south west Sydney too and just had our slab poured. we have a builder friend who will be our own inspector, just for peace of mind. Best to cover all bases we think! Good luck with your build Re: Rawson Homes - Our dream home journey - Metford 28 Trend 1594Apr 06, 2015 7:18 pm We got an independent inspection at frame stage and again at PCI, well worth the money. Not that our SS wasn't alreafy aware but it gave us peace of mind and kept them honest. Re: Rawson Homes - Our dream home journey - Metford 28 Trend 1595Apr 11, 2015 11:21 am Hi guys, we are in the final process of drawing up plans with rawson. They want another 10k before we even get to see the final contract. thats $16K all up. that makes it a little hard to walk away if they put something in the contract you dont like. what did you guys do, just pay and hope it all works out? Re: Rawson Homes - Our dream home journey - Metford 28 Trend 1596Apr 11, 2015 4:37 pm We paid $950 for tender then $3000 for accepting the tender and then we paid $7000 for accepting the contract so we have paid $10,950 in total and are just about to start slab. Re: Rawson Homes - Our dream home journey - Metford 28 Trend 1598Apr 13, 2015 5:25 pm Yeah what Melodynche said... we also paid the $950, $3k and $7k and should be starting with our slab in the next week or 2. Re: Rawson Homes - Our dream home journey - Metford 28 Trend 1599Apr 15, 2015 12:36 pm Same here. $950 then $3000 then $7000. We have a slab and they still haven't asked for the first progress payment.
