Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 01, 2013 4:49 pm Hi All, has anyone built with Homestart and what is your opinion on these builders? Recently signed up with them and finding communication is poor, variation cost are ridiciuosly priced considering I have built before. And promises made to optain business cannot be kept. Almost wish like pulling out of the deal but I love the plan too much. Very dissppointed with they service so far and all the BS from then. Re: Building with Homestart 2Jul 03, 2013 2:17 pm I had a meeting with this company but wasn't impressed. Their plans look alright but they gave me one option to build a tiny house on a massive block in the middle of nowhere. I told them id think about it while the block was on hold, they rang me the next day to ask whether they could give the block to another customer. I said whatever and went with a different builder, then they got all shirty when i wouldn't tell them who. Wouldn't recommend. Re: Building with Homestart 3Jul 03, 2013 10:44 pm Thanks Jayboy, their sales reps are very pushy. Homestart, impressions and west australian housing center are all part of BCG. Which I have told is some of the worse companies to deal with. I'm waiting on my plans so we will see what happens. Re: Building with Homestart 4Jul 25, 2013 8:48 pm Hey. So im almost to the end of our build with Homestart. Whilst i cant complain about the quality of the work done, the organisation of the builder sucks big time. Now back in febuary my partner became pregnant. We informed the builder that we needed a completion date so we could work out in advance if our finances would be adequate to get us through rent and mortgage costs. They gave us an "Estimated" completion date and we figured we could just afford and some money over to start decorating our new place. Well, the "Estimated" date was a week ago and were thinking its going to be another four weeks before were able to move in! This is going to cost us another five weeks in rent at 530 a week. As it is only an "Estimated" date, they have no legal obligation and zero financial incentive to complete our home on time. The builder gets narky on the phone when i try to complain and get fixed dates from him and its on thing like blinds and silicone sealing around sinks etc. These jobs are very quick and east to do but i get ridiculous excuses like the trady isnt available. If you are going to use Homestart insist on a guaranteed completion date or dont use them. I dont know that they will give you a guaranteed completion date as thet are going to get paid regardless of wether they finish on time or six months late. You are the only one that is going to lose out. There has been at least five weeks during this build that no work what so ever has been done and the rest of the time one job gets completed in one day and thats it for the week. I am very dissapointed with them and will be posting on multiple forums in order to discourage any one from using them and having the powerless frustration me and my partner have had to endure. Get a guaranteed completion date or DONT USE HOMESTART. Re: Building with Homestart 6Jul 26, 2013 11:27 pm Finally managed to resolved issues with the paperwork side of things only because I picked up errors and having built before complaint to CEO and manager. Poor communications, in correct charging, pushy and almost a sense of being bullied, in experience staff. My advice is to complain to CEO Sue bailey or speak to manager Simona to get anything done. But first do your homework and know your rights. They forget we are the clients who are the paying customer! I now have to wait 3 months for plans to be approved before construction to begin. So only hope all goes good but don't hold my breath considering the poor service received so far.
