Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 29, 2013 2:36 pm Thanks to everyone for all the great advice you have given me over the last 18 months. Finally I have decided to start a thread.
Hubby and I decided on building after a few years of searching high and low for the perfect established home but we just couldn’t find what we wanted Bought a rundown house 6km out of town, renovated it so that it would be tenantable and then rented it out to help pay the mortgage with the intention of eventually knocking it down. Meanwhile we also had our first child and our beautiful little boy is now almost heading towards 2. House recently knocked down and now we have a nice bare block of land almost 800m2 Signed up with Dech£llis Homes and currently in selections phase which has been a very mentally and physically exhausting process but all the while not a bad experience. We are building a 4 bed, 2 bathroom single storey home. Had the most fun at the plumbing supplier as the guy was good fun and had good ideas and hubby went crazy at the audio selections. Walked in saying we would stick to the basics like TV points and data points and the like but walked out with a selections upgrade cost of $$$$$$$$!! Spent some more at electrical and thousands on LED down-lights then more at the joinery supplier on soft close drawers etc and the tile place and the splashback place and by the end of it we spent way more than we planned but the temptation was just too much and we caved in very quickly. Luckily we still have a contingency fund!! Then my lovely hubby decides he needs a better sound/audio system for the new build and whilst we were at it spending money like it was growing on a tree in the back yard we decided on upgrading our TV. But hubby works very hard so I think he deserves it (and plus, I get my 2 pac kitchen with soft close pot drawers to most of the kitchen!) Anyway, we have our final builders interview in a couple of weeks. Build start planned for August but will see about that. Will post some pics when I get a chance. Look forward to sharing this journey with you... for those who are interested. We have just finished building with Dh and have been in for 3 months. We built the Monaco as displayed. I wish we had thought about the linen cupboard behind the main bath shower it's a massive space there, even though there is no shortage of storage in this house!! Good luck with your build we had no problems trades and supervisor were all very good. Re: Building in Adelaide- SA 19Jun 30, 2013 3:29 pm Plumbergasfitter Hi pannacotta, looks like the Monaco? Good luck with your build we had no problems trades and supervisor were all very good. Hi! Yes, good spotting! Probably thought it was your house - LOL!! It is based on the Monaco but modified with additions and we had to change the size slightly to fit our block etc but we made a couple of things bigger and had to cut back width in some areas. We were sold on the storage in this house and we loved the open plan living and massive island bench. Even with the standard size of the bench being massive I got a bit carried away and we made ours wider - we went 1100mm wide instead of 900mm and my hubby just laughed at me but still let me have it . We love the Monaco display- so open and airy and the living space is so vast. Bet you are loving your home and it is looking gorgeous! Really nice to hear that the trades and SS were good. Who did you have as a SS? We hear there is a SS named R who is really nice. Have you got a thread? Would love to see your house? And where did you build? Sorry for the 3rd degree LOL Re: Building in Adelaide- SA 20Jun 30, 2013 5:55 pm Selections:
I am trying ImageShack now External colours Roof tile in Charcoal, porch tile in a dark grey (the lighter grey one shown), monument gutters (dark grey/almost black) and surf-mist garage, dark brown liquorice bricks (not pictured). Thinking colourbond surfmist fascias, White window frames. Not sure yet on render colour for front portico so will ask your opinions Will post more pics if that one works!! Be patient with me in this learning phase. Sounds like I am a bit computer incompetent but actually I am just a geek and only know the boring stuff like Microsoft Office!! LOL Can you give advice on how to get missing certificates needed for a form 21? Our bank requires us to provide one but we are missing 4 building certificates from our first… 3 71778 yes it does, you've just not understood it. theres a difference. 4 5314 Your house should come in "as new" condition.
