Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 26, 2013 6:55 pm We have our PCI this Friday and was just wondering how easily our builder can be let off with such issues? At the moment there's some paint/render splashes, nails in eaves no painted properly, parts of the gutters that have been scratched (pics below) Question is, is it ever too much to say "OK, that needs fixing" (such small things as the paint on the window frames)? For some reason I just think they think they will try and get away with it when bought up. What does everyone think? Cheers! I wouldn't be happy with the scratches, render/paint splashes. Tell them you wont complete handover until these things are rectified. Re: PCI - How easily should a builder be let off? 3Jun 26, 2013 10:09 pm It is a question of what is reasonable If the builder has done a great job and has met and or exceeded your expectations then I would suggest it should not be too difficult to be a little lenient. I have had this where I had a dozen small defects on a handover list and the owner said "I don't care , builder has been great and has looked after us" Then I am happy for them. Unfortunately this is fairly rare and I mainly deal with customers who are disappointed. Looking at your windows in isolation, builder should have cleaned them better By the way how will you know everything else is OK? (compliance with regs, standards, contract etc?) Our list of "things to fix" is growing by the week...are we fussy...yes we are as we are spending big$$$$ , the most expensive thing we will ever purchase....so it has to be near perfect ! Whether its a new car or lounge, when you purchase something, it has to be handed over to you in almost perfect condition .... I don't think you are being unreasonable at all. If your not happy, get them to fix it. Goodluck Re: PCI - How easily should a builder be let off? 5Jun 26, 2013 10:45 pm I think you should at least get them to fix the paint on the window frames. Re: PCI - How easily should a builder be let off? 7Jun 29, 2013 2:01 pm I don't think you should care who gets annoyed at you, it's your place and your money. I think you're best to mention everything, at least they'll have some feedback, then just pick your battles with respect to what you will not back down on and be prepared to maybe let the mini ones go. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: PCI - How easily should a builder be let off? 8Jun 29, 2013 4:52 pm Well I think you are well within your rights. Look at other professions.... say Dentist - do you let them off??? I am an accountant and I am pretty sure that if I am not 100% accurate I have to make good, why is it we should cut slack for the building industry. Substandard should not be tolerated. Re: PCI - How easily should a builder be let off? 9Jun 30, 2013 2:02 pm I'm thinking about this issue at the moment. We are nowhere near hand over however I have noticed one of the window frames has a chip in it. I'm wondering if this is something I have to accept or if I'm being picky! I haven't looked at everything, just noticed it as the black plastic was ripped and I wanted to see the frame colour.
