Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 17, 2013 4:59 pm Hi All, I've been a bit slow, they are about to start the plastering on our house, but just starting a build thread now. So a bit of back story - We bought our land at the start of 2011. We picked a flat block, as big as we could afford. The planned parks and schools seemed perfectly located and we were very happy with our choice. We planned to sit on it for a while until we were more settled. lol That didn't really happen as we had planned, but in December last year we decided to go for it anyway and started looking at display homes. We looked at many display homes and sat down and got full quotes from 4 different companies and asked many questions, before deciding on Carlisle. We paid our deposit on the 17th Feb and began the paperwork and selection process. Re: Our Hamilton23 with Carlisle 3Jun 17, 2013 8:26 pm Yay!! You have your selections. Can I ask why you picked laminate instead of tiles? I'm not sure which one I'm going to pick Re: Our Hamilton23 with Carlisle 4Jun 17, 2013 8:42 pm February12 Can I ask why you picked laminate instead of tiles? I'm not sure which one I'm going to pick Hi Feb, We went with laminate for a few reasons. 1) We think it 'looks' warmer than tiles 2) It is physically warmer than tiles 3) I hope it won't show the dirt as much 4) We have seen friends of ours young children fall and hit their heads on a tiled floor more than once and didn't want to have this extra worry. (We don't have kids yet but are planning for them in the nearish future.) Re: Our Hamilton23 with Carlisle 5Jun 17, 2013 10:01 pm Progression to the slab: It was very exciting when the slab went down. Sounds silly, but I think there is something pretty about the slab. Its nice and neat. lol Building site doesn't stay like that for long! Re: Our Hamilton23 with Carlisle 6Jun 18, 2013 12:20 pm Thanks so much for your help. I guess I'll just go and see what colours are available to decide. wow is the laminate really warmer than tiles? so many things to decide on Re: Our Hamilton23 with Carlisle 7Jun 18, 2013 1:30 pm February12 wow is the laminate really warmer than tiles? Yeah in winter, tiles are cold to walk on. It's just because of what they are made of. I prefer the look of timber (even if it is 'fake') plus then you don't have to worry about the grout lines getting dirty over time. Although of course with laminate or a timber product you do have to be somewhat careful to make sure it doesn't get scratched too much. Pros and cons for both really. Just so you know with Carlisle only the laminate or 400 X 400 tiles are included in the flooring pack. If you want real timber or bigger tiles it will cost more. (Laminate looks like timber, but doesn't actually contain any real timebr in it.) Hey Hamilton23, Did you get the glass splashback in the promo? I'm confused, we've got a glass splashback in the promo so does that include glass over colour or is it just wall colour and the glass over it? No not in the promo, cause we had a different promo back in Feb when we signed up. The wall is the normal paint colour you have chosen for inside the house. I assume the glass is coloured or has a coloured layer something like that. Ah damn I was hoping it'd be a colour in the back, guess we'll see how much it'd cost to do it. Re: Our Hamilton23 with Carlisle 13Jun 23, 2013 5:42 pm Sorry I've been slow to upload the photos, not at home at the moment to do so, but we will try and do this week. We now have plaster and are locked out! Although the bricks have not started yet, as the brickie was delayed at another site. I'm hoping the bricks start next week. When we picked our block, about 2 and a half years ago, there weren't even roads. We bought it off the plan! We couldn't even look at the grass. Regardless of wall hung toilet or floor pan toilet your feet will be right on drain, seems to me the waste should not be in that location given the design.
