Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 16, 2013 2:57 pm Hello, a builder mentioned to me they generally use lightweight foam/polystyrene for the first floor of their double storey homes. Anybody out there have their double storey home built this way? So obvioulsy, I'd imagine it would be lighter but what are the other pros and cons of this method of construction? Re: Double storey home - L/W foam/polystyrene for first floo 2Jun 16, 2013 5:13 pm We built a 2 storey custom home and have eps foam cladding on the upper storey and a mix of face brick and render on the lower level. Advantages of foam cladding is that its cost effective and the thermal qualities are good, however I would recommend going with the 100mm width as you then get window reveals. Once rendered it looks great providing they use a 3 part render process which includes mesh overlay. The downside is potential cracking and it's also a highly flammable material. Also because its lightweight the steel support beams do not need to be as heavy rating meaning some more cost savings. It's widely used at the moment for most double storey dwellings. Good luck with your build. 1 2465 Hi Kristy Around $1.7-1.8m or around $4,600/sqm. if you PM me your email I will send you a break up in a spreadsheet so you can get an understanding of the costs for… 1 347 Not expansion foam, but a expansion joint foam.
