Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Redink, First Home - Working Plan Screenshots! 61Oct 29, 2013 8:16 pm Looking good. One thing I noticed is the external laundry door. Might want to consider it swinging outward, easier to do with basket in hand but also if you put the basket in from of machine to get clothes out don't have to pick it up/move it to open the door. Something small but something to consider. Also can't remember if its been mentioned but where will you washing line will be? It has to be minimum 50cm from HWS. Love the colours Re: Redink, First Home - Interior Design Consult Today 62Nov 05, 2013 7:21 pm Quick update, had my colour consult today. Even the 'race that stops the nation' couldn't stop me! I found the experience very helpful, albeit a little frightening. At the end of the day, I don't really know what I'm doing so I just have to stick with my gut instinct and hope for the best. Here are my selections... External Colours Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Kitchen bench and cupboards. I'm thinking navy/royal blue glass splashback. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Ensuite Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Bathroom/Powder Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Laundry is the same as the bathroom and powder, but has a formica benchtop in the same colour as the kitchen cabinets. All selections will have to be confirmed at prestart next week. I hope I don't change my mind too much before then. Re: Redink, First Home - Interior Design Consult Today 63Nov 05, 2013 9:13 pm LOL, don't overthink it!!!! I only managed to change my feature tile & delete a tile (between Interior Appt & Pre Start) so I think that was pretty good! My only comment would be... if you are having stone benchtops in your kitchen I would really get rid of the draining board, I'd get an undrmounted sink, otherwise you are hiding all your lovely stone under stainless steel. Well done on all your choices though! My build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68002 Re: Redink, First Home - Interior Design Consult Today 67Nov 06, 2013 1:36 pm Looks good. I went for Carbon bench top in my kitchen too! I didn't know what I was doing colour-wise either and just went with my gut haha. Well done on all your choices though! Hi Burnsfirsttime, thanks for your feedback. I did contemplate an undermount sink in the kitchen but decided against it. I don't want to be rest a dish drainer on the bench at all times and I *definitely* don't want to score draining lines into the stone like I've seen on some designs. I don't mind the stainless steel sink. I've got a good 1.5 metres of stone to the side and a decent bit 'north' of the sink too. It's quite a wide bench. Valid point though, perhaps I'll look into it again. Quote: Looks good. I didn't know what I was doing colour-wise either and just went with my gut haha. Cheers wfry. haha going with your gut is the only way to go it seems! What cupboard colour did you go with to match with the Carbon bench? Might have a quick flick through your thread again. Re: Redink, First Home - Interior Design Consult Today 69Nov 06, 2013 5:34 pm My cupboards are Chocolate Pear from Formica. My kitchen tiles are a slightly lighter grey than the Carbon. Hopefully I will have real photos to show in the not-so-distant future! Btw, I really like the Choc Pear and am glad I chose it. Had enough of the white/ grey/ neutral colours haha. Had enough of the white/ grey/ neutral colours haha. Yeah I know what you mean. In an ideal world I would choose actual timber cupboards. Jarrah would be the dream! My parents house is like that and I've grown to like the look of it. I'll just have to be satisfied with my spotted gum floorboards Re: Redink, First Home - Prestart next week 71Nov 07, 2013 2:19 pm I put a photo of my kitchen cupboards up on my thread. [quote] I went for a double bowl Clark Fusion ( http://www.clark.com.au/products/kitche ... undermount ) sink in my kitchen as that comes with different fittings that you can put in one sink to change it to a drainer if you need to... just an idea. I wouldn't want to score draining lines in my stone either. My build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68002 Re: Redink, First Home - Prestart next week 73Nov 07, 2013 6:01 pm To be honest we have an undermount sink and I think if I did it again I'd do the same sink but top mount, so still no draining board. We have a dishwasher so most of the dishes go in there but a fair few also get washed in the sink. I have a plastic cafeteria style tray I put a drainer on when doing dishes, once theyre put away the draininer and tray go in the cupboard under the sink. Re: Redink, First Home - Prestart tomorrow! 74Nov 10, 2013 5:28 pm So much prestart preparation! I have to make a list of my lists. I had a very long discussion with my brother who is also building, and I think (hope) I'm sufficiently prepared for tomorrows meeting. One question though, when you are quoted a price for an upgrade, say roof tiles for examples, are you allowed a few days to think about it or do you have to decide then and there? I don't do so well making decisions under pressure, so I'm either going to end up with no upgrades or ALL the upgrade$!!! I also don't know how much is too much, its so hard to know if you're being taken for a ride. Does anyone have any rule of thumbs/pearls of prestart wisdom they want to share? Re: Redink, First Home - Prestart tomorrow! 75Nov 10, 2013 5:41 pm Depending on builder you may not get costs at prestart. You may have to wait for them. Im not sure how redink works. You dont have to sign off until youre happy with costings list. Think of what youre willing to pay per upgrade. If it goes over dont do it, youll prob regret later. Also think of what things you NEED builder to do and what you can do yourself Re: Redink, First Home - Prestart tomorrow! 78Nov 10, 2013 9:45 pm I start at 9:30am, so here's hoping I can get it sorted in one hit! I'm told Redink provide cost estimates as the meeting progresses. Well thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to let you all know how I get on. Re: Redink, First Home - Prestart tomorrow! 79Nov 10, 2013 10:34 pm We had all ours costed on the day. The best advice is to get EVERYTHING costed that you can think of & then cross things off as you go if they are $$$ or you can do without. Mitred Tiles are a must, ours was only $250-$300....best money I have spent. Have a look at Munchy's, mine, Kats thread & they should have some things costed in them or the things that were best value for $$. Good luck, don't get overwhelmed!!!!
