We were thinking that the corner pantry in our kitchen is a walking pantry, although it is rather small (1250x1200). But, when i went to inspect this morning, the corner pantry is not a walk-in. In fact it is just like the other ordinary pantry.
It is quite hard actually to reach the thing on the furthest corner (about 1300 from the pantry door), if it is not a walk in.
With the size, is it possible to have it walk in?

This of course limits the amount you can keep in the pantry. So I guess you need to ask yourselves….how much space do you want? It has toekick with heigh about 100mm, so the pantry floor is 100mm high. Just raising it as a concern. I know that the bottom shelf is probably not "designed" to be stood on but inevitably you'll end up standing on it to get the last tin of peas from the depths of the cupboard.....and at the very least you might scuff the melamine...... Not trying to be critical...but personally I'd rather have tiles at the bottom of a pantry. Because if I look on the bottom of our corner pantry it's got all stuff you wouldn't put on melamine - wheeled onion and potatoe trolley, glass grog bottles, big tin of vege oil, small esky, it's also where we hide the step stool.....and if it's tiled every know and then it gets a mopping......(this is exceedingly practical talk for a bloke.....  )

The current pantry has the melamine floor. As you said, it will be difficult to reach the stuffs at the corner. That is why i was rather upset. but surprisingly my "less complicated" wife thought it should be okay, although she only see the photos (and did not see the REAL pantry). I will talk to the builder tomorrow, and see his comment on this less desirable outcome. A tip from the happily married....make sure she sees the pantry "in the flesh" prior to accepting that its OK.....nothing worse than not being happy with one of the main "work spaces" in the house. There may not be anything you can do to change the design, that is, it may have been built as per the drawing, but better to know now rather than later. And it may be cheaper to do the variation now than have the hassle of modifying it later on.
