Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 09, 2013 12:31 am I have been meaning to start my own thread for ages, but I kept getting sidetracked reading about everyone else's build. Anyway... Nearly finished and finally have a threa 4Jun 09, 2013 1:09 am So as far as I can tell we have the following to be finished: Electrical fitout (they haven't even told us when we need to order the lights so I'm guessing this won't be that soon) Painting - the painters have been there for a few days prepping it. We've been told it will take about 2 weeks. Robe doors, mirrors, shower screens etc Plumbing: I'm not sure if the sinks and toilets have been plumbed in - haven't been out to check as my daughter has been sick in hospital Security screens Driveway Alfresco tiled and front porch concrete and tiled Carpet We were also told it would then be about a week after everything is finished to clean it No idea of when handover will be but I think it is getting close. Maybe about a month or so?? My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65324&p=1032514#p1032514 Re: Zalira's build. Great plan too, I really like the activity area, great for the kids and can grow with them from toy room to hangout space as they get older. Re: Zalira's build. Nearly finished and finally have a threa 7Jun 10, 2013 10:47 am Thanks for the lovely comments about our house. I can't wait for it to be finished as this will be the first house that we own So, I love most of the house... but I am a bit unsure about the ensuite vanity (ok... I kind of hate it). We chose the colour of the cabinets at the last minute when we were at the colour selection appointment because the one we wanted wasn't available. I don't mind it in the main bathroom and laundry.. it just doesn't look right in the ensuite. I know it is because of the feature tiles above the vanity.. but they tie in with the same tiles on the back of the shower so I'm not sure what to do. I think the tiles make the vanity look brown and it doesn't seem to 'go' with the rest of the ensuite. Not sure whether to change the tiles above the vanity or get a price for replacing the doors and side panel of the cabinet to just make them white. Here is the picture: http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i239/msgracie/IMG_0598_zpsb0379557.jpg On a more positive note... I love our kitchen <3 http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i239/msgracie/IMG_0599_zps81d77c24.jpg I'm also trying to decide what pendants to have above the island bench. We quite like these concrete pendants from beacon but also love all the glass pendants that are around at the moment too. Who would think that lights would be such a hard decision lol. http://www.beaconlighting.com.au/tadao- ... crete.html My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65324&p=1032514#p1032514 Re: Zalira's build. Our splashback is in! 9Jun 12, 2013 6:54 pm The retaining wall and fence on the high side were started today and the water tank has been plumbed in. But... on more exciting news. We now have a splashback. My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65324&p=1032514#p1032514 Re: Zalira's build. Our splashback is in :) 10Jun 13, 2013 4:40 pm It's fabulous, Zalira. Looks like it shouldn't be long before you'll be moving in. Hope your daughter is better soon. Re: Zalira's build. I'm feeling a bit annoyed that no-one from the builder has let us know what is happening or how much longer it might be. My husband spoke to them last Friday and they said they didn't know when it would be finished but they would speak to the Site Supervisor and let us know. We don't even want an actual date... we just want to know is it a few weeks, a month?? I've just emailed them so will see if we hear a reply. Anyway.. if you have read this.. thanks for listening to my rant. My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65324&p=1032514#p1032514 Re: Zalira's build. Our splashback is in :) 13Jun 14, 2013 1:36 pm Hi Zalira, Love the plan, very functoinal and spacious. Your build has been so quick so far! How long did they tell you it would take roughly when you signed up? I thought generally it took about 5 months as a minimum, but hopefully yours might be a bit quicker, considering how fast they have been so far. Zalira I think the tiles make the vanity look brown and it doesn't seem to 'go' with the rest of the ensuite. Not sure whether to change the tiles above the vanity or get a price for replacing the doors and side panel of the cabinet to just make them white. Are you having a mirror above the ensuite? If so wait until that is in before you worry about changing anything. You might like it more once the mirror is in and that gives it a different look. Wrong Driveway 15Jun 25, 2013 1:12 pm Here is our latest update: We've been told our new estimated handover date is 12th July or possibly the week after. It is a shame because I'm on holidays at the moment so it would have been good to be moving in now. My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65324&p=1032514#p1032514 Re: Zalira's build. Our splashback is in :) 16Jun 25, 2013 1:50 pm Your house is looking gorgeous. Love the plan. Sounds like you are in the same waiting pattern as we are. We were told the building would take 15 weeks max. That would be the 04.07.2013. Then we were told 6 weeks left to go tops. Which would have taken us to 08.07.2013. We have now been told the carpet has been delayed and won't be in until 02.07.13. Which means our initial dates aren't going to happen and we haven't been given any new dates. It is very frustrating to not know how far off you are isn't it? Even just thinking "should I be starting to pack?" Re: Zalira's build. Our splashback is in :) 17Jun 25, 2013 2:11 pm A word re your ensuite vanity. I hated how ours looked - it was the only thing I was really bummed about - I even contemplated spending money to change it. 3 years on - I only think "thank goodness did not spend money to change it" Live with it a bit - once its used and all the stuff is in it more than likely will be fine. We want everything perfect - but perfect does not really exist... Your house is beautiful - glad you are getting driveway changed that is a major stuff up. Zalira's build: Retaining wall issues! 18Jul 01, 2013 12:11 pm I went out to the house (can't really call it the block anymore now that it is nearly finished), but I couldn't get in. Through the windows it looked like most of the painting has been done. They've tiled the front portico and it looks great with the slate cladding. The door still needs to be stained (you can see the test colour on the middle piece). I'm not sure what they'll do under the door and just above the tiles as it doesn't look finished. I wonder if they'll put a trim or paint it. My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65324&p=1032514#p1032514 Re: Zalira's build: Retaining wall issues! 19Jul 03, 2013 4:17 pm We had 8 painters at the house yesterday and the painting was due to be finished today. I think the electrician is doing the lighting on Monday. We are due to have carpet, mirrors and robe doors done on Tuesday and the driveway will be ripped up and redone that day too. I can't think of what else would need to be done after that.. so..... I think we're getting close to PCI!!!! My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65324&p=1032514#p1032514 Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense.
