Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 06, 2013 12:22 pm I am not able to decide my floor tiles colour. Initially I selected dark charcoal grey tiles but after seeing my façade which is too dark (credit goes to my colour consultant), I am apprehensive going for dark floor inside the house. My kitchen is white and black timber. I am now thinking of going for light grey floor tiles. It is very hard to get good grey colour tiles (600*600 porcelain) in the market. I could get only one or two that fits my budget. It is a very simple plain tile. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/708/photo4hux.jpg/. Please give me your thoughts on this. I have to make decision soon as I can't buy furniture until I know the tiles that I will be having. Thanks Re: Confused about Floor Tiles Colour 2Jun 06, 2013 12:27 pm I'm not going to vote, because I think it depends on the circumstances! You really need to go with light colours if you don't have a lot of windows, except in rooms where you want it to be dark. But if the house is quite open & airy-feeling, then you can go either way. I don't think the exterior needs to dictate the interior though; just because your outside is coming-up darker than you expected doesn't mean the inside will. I think ignore the outside for the moment, and see how a few display-homes look with the approximate tile colours you're considering? They don't have to even have identical floorplans to yours, just roughly the same number of windows and approximate room placing in the open areas. Re: Confused about Floor Tiles Colour 3Jun 06, 2013 1:22 pm My personal opinion is light to mid, because then you are offsetting both the white and black of the kitchen with a balanced colour. Unfortunately as with photos of colours, it looks warmer here than it does in reality, it is more of a grey in real life. For us it's only for bathrooms/laundry as we're having floorboards elsewhere, but it would still work fine for your kitchen. Where we are currently living has charcoal tiles in the bathrooms and laundry and the specks of dust/grass/dirt show up waaaay more than with lighter tiles. I vacuum but straight away can see specks on the floor. Very annoying.
