Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Highbury Homes 2Jun 05, 2013 1:19 pm I haven't built with them but I almost did. They designed us a gorgeous house from scratch and the sales person was great, in fact all of the office staff were friendly and informative. The reason we backed out of building with them was that just before our plans were finalised, they told we'd have to move our house forward 1.5 metres or we'd have to pay $45k+ for a back retaining wall = deal breaker for us. If the house designer had come out to the block then he would've realised asking the above wasn't going to work. That said the paperwork side was slow but I think this is to be expected to a certain extent with a custom house. They are also building a house a few streets away from us and it seems to be moving really slowly, it started mid last year and its still going but that could be due to the owners and not the builder. If I had my time again, I would've had an independent design drawn up that we own and I would've shopped it out to other building companies to quote a price. Re: Highbury Homes 3Jun 07, 2013 12:14 pm Thanks for that. I have found the sales people in the display homes very helpful and have even spoken to one of their design people. However I can't seem to find many comments where the people are very happy with the build. Who did you eventually decide to build with? Re: Highbury Homes 4Jun 07, 2013 12:18 pm Followed your thread and see you chose Gemill. We are building a 2 storey home. We are going to demolish an old home to build the new one. Who did your demo work and how much were the costs approximately? Thanks Miriam Re: Highbury Homes 5Jun 07, 2013 2:21 pm Hi, I sent you a PM with details of the demolition company, I will say that I was very happy with their work, they were timely and did a good job - no complaints, plus they had the best price. Our demo from memory cost about 16k incl GST for a 3 x 1 double brick and tile house, most of the demolition companies were around this price plus or minus $500-2k. Re: Highbury Homes 6Apr 28, 2015 12:48 pm Mir63 We are thinking about building with Highbury homes. Has anyone built with them in the last couple of years? I would be interested in hearing about peoples experiences both good and bad. Hi Mir63, Did you end up building with highbury homes? Re: Highbury Homes 7Sep 01, 2015 1:59 pm I would look elsewhere. We built with them 4 yrs ago. Custom build, Passive solar home. We have a box gutter in the middle of the house which leaked for 3 years. Last year the front gutter fell off. Red Tag Roofing had used small tek screws to hold the gutter onto the fascia instead of brackets. They replaced the gutter but didn't silicone any joins and now this winter the fascia has been ruined by the leaks. Still getting it sorted out through building commission. So I would build with someone else Re: Highbury Homes 9Sep 02, 2015 1:10 pm Good I hope it stays that way for you. Just keep an eye on the sub contractors cause Highbury won't. Roof leaked cause they didn't seal where the hot water system was attached to the roof. Had to rip all the plasterboard out of the ensuite as they installed normal plasterboard instead of waterproof stuff. Re: Highbury Homes 10Nov 21, 2015 10:45 am Still going great! Their attention to detail and tradies have been amazing, we met our ss and one of the directors at our house too Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 74702 I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending. All their existing trades and businesses don't work with… 14 105564 Hi there! Putting the feelers out there for those who have (or almost) built with Arli homes!
