Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 04, 2013 3:15 pm Hi I'm looking for some advise in regards to building a home in a block land close to a electric substation. The substation is just across the road infront of the lot. I have seen some comments in internet it can be a health issue especially if you have a child Any thoughts and advise regarding the electromagentic radiations from electric substations would be much appreciated Thanks Re: Building home near electric kiosk(substation) 2Jun 04, 2013 4:23 pm newhomehunter Hi I'm looking for some advise in regards to building a home in a block land close to a electric substation. The dangerous stuff is the radon daughters which form, but as this is a gas, it dissipates over distance. It would not worry me. Re: Building home near electric kiosk(substation) 4Jun 05, 2013 11:51 am Personally I wouldn't buy/build on this block, if not for health reasons, but for aesthetic reasons and re-sale value. My Hamptons build (completed): viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63370 Moved in Wednesday 11th Dec 2013 Front landscaping completed June 2016 Re: Building home near electric kiosk(substation) 5Jun 05, 2013 12:55 pm I am no expert on the subject and there may very well be no ill affects from living near one but i wouldnt build or buy near a power station either Rightly or wrongly most people will be of the opinion that there are health issues surrounding them so your home already has a black mark against it for resale or rental values. Re: Building home near electric kiosk(substation) 6Jun 09, 2013 2:58 pm We had one opposite our house in Darwin and it was never a drama. It was a 11kV/400V step-down around 5 foot high and 6 foot square that fed our street and side street. In reality, it'd only worry me if it exploded. Re: Building home near electric kiosk(substation) 7Jun 12, 2013 9:13 am Thanks E1109 for your reply. The one opposite to the block of land I'm planning to purchase is of similar size to one you had opposite to your house. I checked the emf near the electric substation using a gauss meter and found the reading is within the recommended limits i.e < 4mG Re: Building home near electric kiosk(substation) 8Jun 12, 2013 9:15 am newhomehunter Thanks E1109 for your reply.
