Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 27, 2008 5:47 pm Calling any Sydneyites who have got more colour selection talents than me ....i'm totally stuck.......going around in circles....am about to resort to hysteria I have to have this nutted out within 2 weeks.
For the life of me I can't seem to settle on a brick colour Am usually pretty decisive but this part of the project has got me stumped. I've been out to the brick sites - boral, pgh & austral. The more I look, the more confused I get. Can anyone out there point me in the right direction, please ????? THE MAIN STIPULATION : I don't like light coloured bricks; mid range & dark preferred. This is what I've nutted out so far : ROOF : colorbond Jasper FASCIA/GUTTER : Jasper UPPER STOREY CLADDING : Taubmans Kid Skin WINDOWS : Aluminium Birch White Gloss GARAGE DOOR : sectional timber look DC30 (cedar-like colour) GRND FLOOR BRICKS : ??? MOROKA FINISH FOR FRONT BALCONY : ??? the display home (below) is in Taubmans Green tea Is rescue possible, please ?? I've included 2 shots of the house we'll be building. All the colours are what we'll be going with except the downstairs will be face brick & not rendered. Sorry …..bricks aren’t something I have a lot to do with. People usually have those chosen before they come to me. Sorry …..bricks aren’t something I have a lot to do with. People usually have those chosen before they come to me. Thanks anyway Michelle. I'll be going with a light-coloured moroka finish on the balcony to contrast against the face brick. THe green tea on the display home is obviously too dark (though I adore it). Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: BRICK SELECTION - HEEELLLLLP! 4Apr 27, 2008 6:22 pm If it was my house, I would go for either a dark or a light brick (nothing in between).
If you are having a light-coloured render, it would be a good contrast to have a dark-coloured bricks. You can have a look at our blog for a sample (though our cladding upstairs hasn't been installed yet). I also like the look of light-coloured bricks for double-storey houses.. but darker for me, is better. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: BRICK SELECTION - HEEELLLLLP! 5Apr 27, 2008 6:36 pm Hi VJ,
I checked out your blog ages ago & loved your bricks immediatley . Did your blog say that they were called Hawthorn? I don't think you can get these in sydney. Would love to have the same look. Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: BRICK SELECTION - HEEELLLLLP! 6Apr 27, 2008 6:41 pm Yes, it's Austral's Hawthorn.
Just wondering if they have it there but in different name. Will check Austral's website. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Oh, I remember, it's part of the Melbourne Series bricks... so it's only available in Melbourne? VJ, kind thanks. I must admit I've seen beautiful bricks on Vic brick websites. The colours seem to be somehow different - classier. Must be the clays you guys have down there. What???? How bad is that! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: BRICK SELECTION - HEEELLLLLP! 11Apr 27, 2008 7:10 pm My suggestion would be I think you should check out Austral Mahogany... if you like VJ's bricks i think you'll like Mahogany.
We were going to go with Mahogany (have since changed builder and house so have gone for a lighter brick now). We weren't sure when we saw them close up, but when you see the finished house they look pretty good. I've got a couple of photos of finished houses in Mahogany will try and post them. Thanks bb, will definitely check it out - looks great on the computer. Would be greaet if you could manage to send the photos Much appreciated. Normally, I'd have a sounding board, but DH has been o/seas for 4 weeks & will be gone again for 4 months after a quick trip home shortly. The pressure of getting this right, is getting to me Never mind - it will get better, I'm sure & this forum is just what I need. I love both, but if you want a crisp clean look then go with the 1st one. I think for our style of house I'd consider the 1st one - pgh. The photos were sent to my by a friend. I think the first house was for sale a while ago. Oops not sure if I should put these photos up without permission from current owner. Oh oh!! Didnt think v hard about this!! Hope Im not guilty of some major wrongdoing!!!! Raz If you think you can, you can. Re: BRICK SELECTION - HEEELLLLLP! 19Apr 27, 2008 10:13 pm Because you have cladding to the upper area (which I suppose is a light coloured one) of your house, dark-coloured bricks would look great.
Based on those photos, those two bricks look great (Mahogany and PGH). But again, it would be better to see a house in flesh with those bricks. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping!
