I quite liked the chandler alfresco when we were looking at different plans Siteworks 8/11 Slabbed 19/11 Our Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65703 Re: anybody building with hickinbotham? 6Feb 26, 2013 8:32 pm Hi Hatchy, My son (22 next month) is building with Hickies and he is at the signed contract stage. He is waiting on finance approval/settlement of the block of land. Hickies has said he is about 6 weeks from colour selections so his girlfriend is frantically looking at the book and going into Head office to have a look at the choices. They are building the Kingsborough at Munno Para West in a new estate there. What design are you going with? Glad to see there is another Hickies customer on here as there are not very many on here. Look forward to following your progress. I hope to post some of my sons build to share with everyone too. Re: anybody building with hickinbotham? 8Feb 27, 2013 7:59 am oh that's a bumma, when we were looking at hickies the rep let us have a flick through the selections book (just happened to have the pricing in it) so I've got a general idea of the cost of things for like doors, handles etc at least - wasn't as bad as I thought it would be to be honest Siteworks 8/11 Slabbed 19/11 Our Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65703 Re: anybody building with hickinbotham? 9Feb 27, 2013 12:00 pm Hi Hachy, Yes Christmas break is a bummer as it delays things so much. I agree about the selection prices as this is what Scott is struggling with at the moment as like you said it all comes down to $$$ and would be handy to know them before hand so you can't get disappointed knowing it is out of your price range. Also model numbers of things like Air conditioning, suppliers of Panel lift doors etc so you can pre plan what you choose and if you decide to go with them or out source the item. But getting this information is like pulling teeth and they are not willing to divulge too much beforehand. Well this has been our experience so far. We were able to get a colour selection book before they sent us one but its not much help really. Hachy, which one are you building?? Davelle, it would be good if you could "share" this book with the prices Jo My son and his fiance's build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66084 24/7 Slabbed 30/7 Framed 05/8 Gutters 08/8 Roof & windows 31/8 gyprock, bricks, cornice 3/9 Lock up 8/11 In Re: anybody building with hickinbotham? 11Feb 27, 2013 1:05 pm we have 2 colour selections books but neither have prices, i think the first one is non existent now though as we noticed they have changed paint suppliers. it use to be solvers but is now taubmans. the sales consultants might have prices in their books incase somebody asks for it in a quote? they dont give the prices out as they want to make money obviously and upgrades are an easy way. most people have budgets to stick to so it would be nice to have prices in advance, also if people had prices i think it would make the colour appts go quicker cos they would be able to cross things off their list that are too expensive before even getting to the colour appts. i have done a little bit of research on the internet on some rough reccommended retail prices but obviously they need to mark the prices up in order to make any money. my main concern is the kitchen, ideally i would like to upgrade to 900mm wide oven and cooktop but they would probably be the most expensive so not sure if we can fit them into our budget. davelle my email address is cookiemonsterz@live.com.au thanks in advance Re: anybody building with hickinbotham? 12Feb 27, 2013 2:56 pm Hi Hatchy I have just brought myself the westinghouse 900 mm electric ceramic top freestanding oven for my own kitchen which is in the process of being renovated. It is a beautiful piece of kitchen appliance and I am so happy with it. Harvey has it for around $2800 but I got it for just over $2400 with other appliances as well, so that may give you an idea how much it is out sourced. Re: anybody building with hickinbotham? 16Mar 04, 2013 2:25 pm Davelle If you both PM me your email adresses I can send you some info that I've got Sending you a PM Davelle--wonder if you might send me the info too. Re: anybody building with hickinbotham? 17Mar 15, 2013 5:28 pm Hi Hachy, How far along are you with the process? My son is at Master Plan stage and they have already rejected the first set of plans as they were not correct. A big mistake that they missed moving a window from one wall to another so another set need to be made up. Also they wanted a cavity sliding door put in and was quoted for one and the consultant instead made it a face sliding door $350.00 and now have been told they can't have a cavity one as they didn't "quote" for a cavity only a face sliding one and when they pushed for it they have been told the wall is not wide enough for a cavity. They are really disappointed. They are also having some problems with complying 6 star energy rating even though they have upgraded all the insulation, put insulation in the Internal walls as well. The Company want to resize a window in the living room by 30cm and at a "reduced" cost of $250 instead of $500 . Can't help feeling they are getting r*pped off but what can you do? Cheers Jo My son and his fiance's build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66084 24/7 Slabbed 30/7 Framed 05/8 Gutters 08/8 Roof & windows 31/8 gyprock, bricks, cornice 3/9 Lock up 8/11 In Re: anybody building with hickinbotham? 18Mar 15, 2013 11:31 pm hi jo, that isnt good to hear your son is being stuffed around we have our colour selections appt on tuesday, we didnt have a problem with the master plans as we didnt change anything although looking at a couple of the doors and the way they swing i wish i had of changed those, i am assuming that changing the way a door swings would cost money cos they would have to redraw plans so i guess i will have to deal with the doors swinging the wrong way but i am sure they wont be hard to change later on. the council has approved the first part, just waiting on the second two parts but i think they need to look at colours as they dont like red and orange roof tops etc(not that we were having those colours anyway). i dont know if our house meets the 6 star efficiency rating or not? would the council not have passed the first stage if it wasnt compliant? i am sure come tuesday at our appt we will feel like we are getting ripped off, surely there will be costs that we are unaware of. h Re: anybody building with hickinbotham? 19Mar 16, 2013 8:38 am The low energy rating was picked up after they got the Master Plans which they didn't sign as the window wasn't moved to where they wanted it. I am not sure what would have happened if all was well and they had signed them. Scott got a phone call from the Construction Services guy who told him he had to change the size of the window to meet requirements. So now there is another variation form to fill in for the extra charge for the resizing of the window. You may be surprised at selections re the costing as Scott has been a couple of times to the showroom and has had some pricings from them on what they want upgraded. So far they are only up for about $4000 extra and the footings came back $3000 less than they allowed so that was a bonus for them. Are you getting the NBN at selections?? If so, that is $1030.00 but apparently that is a good price as to get it put on after is alot more than that. There are some things that can still be changed at selections, so ask about your doors as Scott is having a sliding door removed at selections and it is not costing anything to do it (they have this in writing as well to make sure). His consultant says that is the last chance to change things without incurring variation costs. Council approvals in the Playford area are getting approved really quick. The consultant said one of his got approved in 1 week, so fingers crossed his is quick too. Good luck at selections My son and his fiance's build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66084 24/7 Slabbed 30/7 Framed 05/8 Gutters 08/8 Roof & windows 31/8 gyprock, bricks, cornice 3/9 Lock up 8/11 In Re: anybody building with hickinbotham? 20Mar 16, 2013 10:53 am We have a list of upgrades, so far it is $3700 from the prices we got from our consultant. Our footings are fixed were scotts variable? Always nice to get prices come back cheaper, so far we have an extra $1000 added on cos we were underquoted on stormwater and something else. NBN?
