Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Rocky Forever Home - KEYS TMRW ARG!! :D 643Jun 21, 2014 8:40 pm EmyN Spiders could cure cancer and I would still not want them to cross my threshold!! Hahaha. I'm with you on that one - Will have to search regarding the pest spray - sounds like a must! Congratulations on getting the keys - can't wait to see it finished once the tiles are in it will be beautiful Re: Our Rocky Forever Home - KEYS TMRW ARG!! :D 644Jun 22, 2014 12:31 pm Thanks so much everyone! It will be some time til we can get finishing off pictures as we're not moving for a few weeks. And our budget won't stretch to lovely new furniture/decor just yet. I feel a bit intimidated by some of the other threads showing beautifully decorated rooms because that is something we will only be able to do over the next few years! evec how are the tradies going with the finishing touches EmyN? Slowly! We've had the painters come back through, and the kitchen cabinet maker FINALLY came to finish the cabinetry (after I sent a rather peeved message to him, once again I hate having to be the narky one). He only has two small jobs remaining now. Unfortunately there had been yet another problem with the stone benchtop so we're still missing half of that. None of the other "Plantation"-tradies have contacted us yet to organise various fixes. I'll nag the SS again early next week hehe. However our tiler is steadily working away, yesterday and today included (quite impressive) and our concretor has poured the footings for the front retaining wall and steps etc. Monday is the back patio concrete, can't wait! And hopefully Thurs/Fri will be our driveway. Can't wait for the mud to be tamed! Some work has been done on the bedding around the pool. We've chosen "Yarra" for our driveway and will get it sealed to help keep it looking dark. I had some girlfriends around at the house one night for an early housewarming gathering, the house was a mess and totally empty but it was AWESOME to be in the house you've dreamed of for so long with friends. Definitely one of the highs for me. I am just so incredibly happy. And to those still struggling along with their builds or hideous administration problems etc rest assured it is WORTH IT. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Our Rocky Forever Home - post handover jobs 646Jun 22, 2014 3:38 pm Great driveway colour. I wanted a dark driveway but with our dark brick and roof hubby won that argument and we got a lighter exposed agg. Great to hear it was all worth it. You have a beautiful home Custom downslope build Build thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61873 Blog http://www.buildingroyalmanor.blogspot.com.au Re: Our Rocky Forever Home - post handover jobs 648Jun 22, 2014 4:04 pm Great news about the tiling and even the driveway soon too it must be super exciting to share it with your friends also! It's certainly intimidating with all the beautifully finished and decorated homes, but we will be in the same position as you guys. We've actually decided to try and have as much furniture and decoration up cycled and second hand as possible doesn't suit everyone but I love rehoming animals why not the furniture too Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: Our Rocky Forever Home - post handover jobs 649Jun 23, 2014 6:09 am Love the idea of rehomed furniture! Thanks EmyN - I'll probably have another nightmare of a spider the size of a cat chasing me tonight! Glad to see things starting to look up and your comments re: frustration with build/admin and the light at the end of the tunnel has put me to ease a bit! and yucky spider Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68375 Re: Our Rocky Forever Home - post handover jobs 652Jun 23, 2014 4:17 pm Hey Emyn, we're still "glamping" atm and the only new furniture I'm buying is (hopefully) my noguchi replica coffee table...We also bought a new kid's bed and trundle... But that's it. So don't feel intimidated, some of us just hang on to what we have and some of us change everything...and some of us are in between the two. (I can't justify the expense of replacing until it's so worn out or so dirty I can't clean it anymore.) Can't understand the arachnophobia, I like spiders. Without them we would all be overrun with flies and other insects...and what would happen to the spider-eating birds? "gets off soapbox". I don't like them in my house of course but I always return them to the garden where they belong.... I remember when DH rang me not long after we moved in together to say we had a "funnel web" in the house (it was a huntsman), 10 years later he's relaxed around the spiders a fair bit Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: Our Rocky Forever Home - post handover jobs 654Jun 24, 2014 8:08 pm Bigblock7 It's certainly intimidating with all the beautifully finished and decorated homes, but we will be in the same position as you guys. "gets off soapbox". I don't like them in my house of course but I always return them to the garden where they belong.... I wasn't born scared of spiders but we lived in a house close to bushland growing up and many incidents have just gradually caused a real phobia. Follows some example of such incidents: - putting on my togs and a redback spider crawling up my thigh - I ran down the hallway naked screaming haha, was about 12. - one time I had a shower (had long hair and wore a showercap when I was younger), I came OUT of the shower, took my shower cap off and there was a frigging great huntsman sitting on my head! He'd been there the whole time!! Still gives me cold sweats. - then the time I lowered a friend's pivot style garage door and a giant huntsman fell off the door as it lowered on to my head. - another time getting out of the shower one time and pulled my towel off the towel rail and there must have been a huntsmen hiding in amongst the folds because it was flung on to me and landed on my chest. There are MANY more incidences, believe me. And I think now all these traumatic events have added up to spiders NOT WELCOME. AKB just think it wasn't that long ago you were posting photos of your stapler to keep us all amused and now your nearly in Haha true!! Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Our Rocky Forever Home - post handover jobs 655Jun 24, 2014 8:11 pm Just an update. Work is progressing on our front retaining wall and plantar box/steps. The footings have been poured and now the blockie is working. He's rigged up some hilarious contraption he says helps him keep things all straight etc. Looks like he's building an Ark in our front yard. I was worried it'd be either too vast-concretey or not big enough but it looks JUST right. (Yes, I'm goldilocks). I don't really have a good picture of this yet. I cannot WAIT for the driveway. It's so depressing having a lovely shiny new WHITE interior being filled with dirt and dust and mud day after day. I can definitely commiserate with your phobia of them. Gross huntsmen... it's a running joke in our family that we (all three grown-up women) still have to phone our Dad to come and get rid of them! Spiders aside, the tiling, driveway and retaining wall is looking awesome, Emy! I bet it is such a huge relief to have had handover and be able to get on with everything now.
