Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 27, 2013 9:25 pm Anyone had experience with having to put articulation (step ins / outs) on the side of their house for council requirements? We are looking at building a 2 storey in Caddens in Penrith, and have been advised that we may need a "cut in" / "step in" on the side of our house as it is a 2 storey wall that is 16.5m long. Can articulation be achieved by different building materials? The suggestion from our builder is to put a cut in into our living room, in the middle of the house, however this is not aesthetically pleasing. Can we argue at council that as our block is 45m long, a 16.5m wall is not that much in proportion? Any advice would be great! Re: Articulation on side of house 2May 27, 2013 11:02 pm Maybe have a look at similar builds in your suburb. This will give a good indication of what is required. Are you in a new estate? Many newer estates have quite specific building and siting requirements that can't be ignored. In my case there are approx 20 pages of requirements that need to be complied with. The development design guidelines don't apply to our release. So it really is just the council requirements / CDC requirements. Re: Articulation on side of house 4May 28, 2013 8:02 am Are you sure CDC requires it; and that it's not a council thing? You can find CDC requirements online, it's fairly easy to get a hold of. We were told something about articulation along the front of our house, but pretty much every design already looks like that so we were never affected ... however I don't remember reading it in the CDC guidelines. Re: Articulation on side of house 5May 30, 2013 9:28 pm definitely a council thing. I meant that we either need to comply with the basic council requirements, or CDC. We have decided to go CDC as it does not require the side articulation.
