Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 28, 2013 4:28 pm Hi, thanks for stopping by!
Well after much reading and lurking on the forum it's about time I started a thread! (We are at lock up). We have some photo-worthy stages coming up so I thought this might be a good time to get it started. Some background, we purchased a 1100m2 block in January 2012. Approval took 3 months in Council due to bushfire issues then it took us 6 months to finalize our finance before we could start (that's another story - have a read here if it's of interest to you: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=58085&p=894848#p894848) during that 9 months we lived with family so it felt like a lot longer! Finally in Sept 2012 we started excavation!! My husband is the builder so he's doing this between other jobs....some weeks a lot gets done other weeks not alot but slowly we are making progress and things are coming together! We designed the house ourselves and had someone draft it up for us. Floor Plan: Here are some pictures of the progress so far.... (since this picture planter boxes/retaining walls have been built out the front as well). We will render the bricks Colorbond Jasper (to match roof and fascia) still to paint the cladding (Newport) surfmist. We also have to paint the tall column -Dulux Cinnamon Sand which is a orange. This picture is out-dated now as we have cladding down the site but I haven't taken a photo of the side lately, you get the idea anyway. As it's still frames inside I can't really get any good pictures but this the view from our living room. It's reserve out the back so our leafy view won't be built out - one of the pros for picking this block. Hopefully I will be able to share some more progress pictures with you soon. ~ gonecountry [i]Timeline (mentioned milestones) 12/9/12 - Site excavation 28/9/12 - Slab down 5/12/12 - Frames complete 8/2/13 - Roof on 27/3/13 - Brickwork complete 3/4/13 - Electrical roughed in 8/5/13 - Plumbing roughed in 18/06/13 - Garage doors installed 18/09/13 - External painting completed 18/10/13 - Gyprock/plaster completed 24/10/13 - Internal stairs completed Re: Our Custom Build on the Coast (NSW) ~ Lock Up 2May 28, 2013 4:48 pm Wow, what an amazing spot. It's like you're living in a forest! Congrats! My Hamptons build (completed): viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63370 Moved in Wednesday 11th Dec 2013 Front landscaping completed June 2016 Re: Our Custom Build on the Coast (NSW) ~ Lock Up 3May 28, 2013 8:14 pm Beautiful view. Are those trees actually on your block? It looks like your house is positioned quite close to the back of your land if not. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Our Custom Build on the Coast (NSW) ~ Lock Up 4May 29, 2013 9:29 am Cinder - thank you, hence the bushfire dramas lol. EmyN - Yeah they are but they are actually a fair way back (doesn't look like it) the block is narrow but really long. Re: Our Custom Build on the Coast (NSW) ~ Lock Up 5May 29, 2013 9:48 am love your house design, especially bed1+wir+ensuite and that view is amazing!!! Re: Our Custom Build on the Coast (NSW) ~ Lock Up 6May 29, 2013 9:57 am Thank you RagnarsWife - the WIR size was of course my idea (do guys ever request that? ) the ensuite is actually bigger than the main bathroom, we figure it's the one we use so why not. Re: Our Custom Build on the Coast (NSW) ~ Lock Up 7May 29, 2013 10:34 am also noticed open plan kitchen-dining living, similar to what we have planned (I wish we had a pantry like yours ) what flooring did you choose for it? we decided to go with timber floor throughout the whole open plan area including kitchen Re: Our Custom Build on the Coast (NSW) ~ Lock Up 8May 29, 2013 11:10 am RagnersWife - For us that was one of the easy design choices - open plan living. As for the pantry if he got the 6 car garage I was getting a big pantry lol We are going with Karndean Vinyl flooring (Mid Worn Oak) throughout the house including the study - excluding bedrooms.
