Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 21, 2013 12:19 pm The home i plan to build has a large roof space. Thankfully the builder uses pine for roof structure, so there's the possibility of using some of the space for storage. I'm doing exactly this in my current house. However the space is less than ideal as some of the structures form an 'A' where the crossbeam is at chest height. Ive asked my builder if its possible for their carpenters to build the roof structure such that a volume is clear of timbers. For those in the know, what kind of arrangements are good alternatives to the traditional 'A' structure? If the crossbeam was at 2m above ceiling instead of 1.3m, what additional bracing would be required? Re: Specifying roof timber structure? 2May 21, 2013 1:19 pm I am interested in this reply because we are thinking of doing an attic storage space/conversion in our yet-to-be-built house, and we're wondering the same thing - if we'll know in advance where the big spaces are, and can they be altered etc. Sorry, no help OP! You would need to talk to the builder and draft a different structure with them. Given I have seen it done recently, it should be entirely possible Re: Specifying roof timber structure? 4May 21, 2013 6:29 pm That would be amazing, our space would be ENORMOUS! I'll definitely chat to our builder about it - thanks! Why would you pay for… 3 6688 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15919 |
