Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Butterbing Solar panels, tinting and all those final tou 1521Sep 08, 2014 11:37 am very interesting reading butterbing. i have 20 panels on one side of the house and powering the pool pump . so far the latest bill was $420 considering the solar panels where not working for about a month and billing cycle is every three months. next month will be interesting to see how much the bill will be. / Re: Butterbing Solar panels, tinting and all those final tou 1522Sep 14, 2014 2:39 pm Tinting all done love it!!! Highly recommend Aussie window tinting...tinted windows right to edges no gaps other companies told me there would be a noticeable gap around the edges.. Do they offer a product where you can see out but not in? I would like to tint my garage windows so it's slightly less inviting to would-be criminals! Wait, just had a look at the photos again. Looks like you may have used such a product. Can you see into the bedroom from outside after the tint? For example, if someone had their nose pressed up against the glass, what would they see? Re: Butterbing Solar panels, tinting and all those final tou 1524Sep 14, 2014 2:54 pm Yes that's what we have during the day the blinds can all be open and no one can see in but the view from the bedroom is awesome...if you press your nose up against the glass you can still see in though.. I haven't check it yet but I'm sure it will be the same as our last house.. At night with the lights on you will be able to see straight into those bedrooms if the blinds are open Design by Greater Concept - modified version Evolution Court Build by Premiere Homes My build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64854 Butterbing Solar panels, tinting and all those final touches 1526Sep 14, 2014 7:00 pm We've tinted the two front kids bedrooms so weren't too concerned about them being too dark hopefully the kids may sleep in a bit longer on the weekends lol... The room already has 100% block out blinds installed that have always been kept closed so the room has always been dark with the tinting on the room is the same with the blinds closed and now we can actually open the blinds I'll take some pictures for you no flash with the blinds closed its great for sleeping but not for playing Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Blinds open still heaps of light to play Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The room next door is very dark with blinds closed again the tinting means the blinds can now we opened and even with only three of the blinds open there's a reasonable amount of light Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Our front rooms are in full shade most of the day as they face south so not the best example if they faced west and had full sun on them in the afternoon they would be very different.. We've been impressed so far with our system we've installed. Here's a graph (courtesy of Fronius solar.web) showing what our system made this week..with a mixture of really nice days down to overcast raining days we can see a mixture of results that we can expect... It's gone above our expectations so a big thumbs up... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Today's is still going up so should will be the best day so far We've installed panels on the east west and north so we can see from our results that this has paid off with the panels making good results very early in the morning right through to late in the afternoon early evening...summer results will be amazing and should help with the added air con usage... We've been sending a little bit back to the grid approx 8kw a day so still have more usage up our sleeves during the day..We've reduced our night usage as well so should see some good results on our next bill.. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Here's a graph showing the solar panel hourly results. It shows how much power is made at what time etc with a maximum of 5kw. The goal is to have the curve reaching 5kw ASAP and sitting at 5kw for as long as possible.. I haven't figured out the monitoring bit for our panels yet..job for the bf I think! Ours has only topped at around 4kw from when I go and check the inverter so I'd be happy with ur results!! fingers crossed your bill has a massive change! Do you know if any meter change over charges etc get added to the first bill since solar is installed? I got varied answers... Might copy your tinting on the glass panels on our front door...bit hard to avoid door knockers when they see you! Re: Butterbing Solar panels, tinting and all those final tou 1535Sep 15, 2014 2:53 am I love it - will definitely get this for our front windows too! Thanks butterbing for showing us all the before and after shots and also the impact inside. I'm also following your solar panels experience with great interest! Will probably not be able to afford them straight away but I think with all the lovely sunshine in Perth it is almost criminal not to harvest it. Re: Butterbing Solar panels, tinting and all those final tou 1536Sep 15, 2014 3:19 pm Home looks amazing! The really hot days actually reduce the solar panel efficiency. We need long sunny days of moderate temp is the key. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This shows how much power was made today and at what time... For those new to my thread our first electricity bill was $1205 before solar. We are attempting to reduce our consumption and make the most of our new solar panels and reach our goal of receiving a bill under $500 next time. Our system is a 5kw system but with 27 panels which is 7kw of panels spread over north/east/west facing creating a maximum of 5kw but for a longer period each day compared to a standard 5kw system... The results speak for themselves with 30-40kw created each day we are well on our way in achieving our goal..currently we are creating excess which is going back to the grid but once the temperature increases the excess will easily be utilised with running ducted aircon.. We have just been leaving ours on rest mode and turning the heat up in the morning if we want to use it at night. I think in summer we will just drop the temp when we get out and bump it up again the morning of each day and not have it on rest. Hopefully this reduces the power usage at night trying to maintain temp. Butterbing Solar panels, tinting and all those final touches 1540Sep 18, 2014 7:54 pm We are trialling a couple of different options we've tried turning the tempature down once we've used it in the evenings it only goes down to around 30 overnight anyway and then turning it back up in the morning and by night time it's perfect...we have just purchased one of the power point electricity usage devices so we are still playing at the moment. Our night time usage is still high though around 17-20kw with the spa temp down and heater off so more investigation is required Design by Greater Concept - modified version Evolution Court Build by Premiere Homes My build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64854 of course there are legal avenues.
