Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 12, 2013 5:11 pm Hey folks, Just wanting to know what people recommend for Soakwells in WA. Concrete or Poly? Also does anyone recommend any particular companies that have good pricing, this is for North of the River by the way A lot of people must of gone through this same thing prior to their build Re: Soakwell Recommendations - WA 2Mar 12, 2013 5:34 pm If builder is not supplying and installing , what does Council Say? This one always trips me out, how does a council grant a building license when the building plan is incomplete ? The differences in what councils allow and require is staggering.. Rant over from me. Ed , personnaly I would have a contractor come in and install the big concrete ones, only cos im not gonna dig 15-20 holes by hand when there is limited room once house and fences are up. Sorry , make that 500 holes if your digging in Quins cos they are all gonna keep caving in. Builder did my last ones, so no unfortunately I cant recommend anyone. Wishing you all the best of luck tho City of Swan does not require you have soakwells at the time of the build. Yeah definitely looking at a contractor coming in however unsure on the type of soakwell as the cost varies greatly between the two and I have been told by a few that it honestly doesn't matter which you go with these days. Haha regarding digging, I am not one for manual labour so definitely a contractors job lol. Re: Soakwell Recommendations - WA 4Mar 12, 2013 6:52 pm It cost me close to $1000 for 2 (1500 X 1200) concrete soakwells ( 1/2 the cost was the trafficable lids) then about another $2000 to get them installed and all the pipes and connections set up. This was by the same contractor that the builder was going to use but the builder wanted $5000 for the privilege. -------------------------------------- Pakman Building with Domain/Plunkett build: viewtopic.php?t=59158 Re: Soakwell Recommendations - WA 5Mar 12, 2013 9:56 pm I called the council and as Im on a clay site I dont need them - we just pipe everything to the pit at the front of section thats already there....stoked.... So friendly, helpful and a great price. We got them to supply only and my hubby installed them - they were so helpful and told us to call them if we had any problems! Great guys and can't recommend highly enough! Re: Soakwell Recommendations - WA 10May 07, 2013 4:05 pm I'm in the process of checking this out now...we need 4.77m3 of capacity according to the council (373m2 of roof) So far all quotes are between $2800 and $3500... Sent a quote off to Henry today to see what it would be to do ourselves! I'm confused with the polypropelene (sp?) soakwells though because it seems people are only installing 1-2 135L soakwells per downpipe and I've only got 9 downpipes so thats roughly 1300L which is way off the 4770 the council requires. Surely this voids the warranty with the builder if there are any structural issues down the track? Or is it irrelevant as it is a council requirement and not a builder requirement? Re: Soakwell Recommendations - WA 11May 08, 2013 10:47 am I've been wondering the same thing. I've got a couple of quotes, one from Henry's and one from another company offering Polypropylene soakwells and I've got the same concerns as kat regarding the voiding of building warranty. Can anyone clarify? So if something were to go wrong, it means it will void my building warranty!?!?!?!? Please help as this is a massive concern for me.
