You are really under a lot of stress so of course it's going to be scary! Hopefully some of the fun type excitement is helping with the scary excitement! Re: Re: SR's KDR/custom build (Lara) - Google Earth changes 62Jul 29, 2014 12:24 am I realised tonight that the satellite view of our place has been updated in Google Maps/Google Earth and it shows our slab. I downloaded Google Earth as that lets you go back through their historical pictures as well - my area goes back to 2002, about six months after we bought the house. Here's how it's changed - I just wish they were clearer! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ From left to right: May 2002, March 2010, Dec 2012 and 27 Jan 2014. So interesting seeing the changes in that view over the years. The photos of your house coming together are great, your kitchen is giant!! I can understand it feeling scary taking custody of the house. It's been a dream for so long, lots of thoughts and plans to make it happen, a dream that's about to come real! Kind of like getting married and having a wedding. Ha ha A good friend of mine's son has Asperger's so with that and building a house I can imagine it's full on at your end. And she doesn't have a moody 9 year old You and your husband are doing a great job. That's great they could easily swap the doors over. I'm so looking forward to seeing pictures of it finished! Re: SR's KDR/custom build (Lara) - Playing with Google Earth 64Jul 30, 2014 12:05 am What a great idea re Google Earth, I may just copy that! Re: SR's KDR/custom build (Lara) - Playing with Google Earth 65Jul 30, 2014 12:19 am Love the kitchen. It's looks so big and super functional. I also love the ensuite cabinet. Does it have a slight woodgrain look to it? Looks gorgeous. Re: SR's KDR/custom build (Lara) - Playing with Google Earth 66Jul 30, 2014 9:43 am Thanks everyone for the compliments! It's so reassuring to have it all come together and look just as good or better than I imagined in my head instead of an epic disaster. I've been saying for months "you know, if we don't like the tiles/laminate/lights/etc, we can always paint over/replace it. Eventually..." I think just trying to reassure myself that anything can be changed if we hate it (except the bricks - and they could be rendered). In fact, I think after all the stress I'd almost prefer to really hate something because it's completely wrong than to just be indifferent and "meh" - but I can be a bit weird like that The ensuite cabinet is Bleached Reed and the laundry and bathroom are Alaskan - both with a subtle stripe/woodgrainy look but a little bit different from each other. I preferred the sample chip of BReed when we did our selections and was actually a little nervous about the Alaskan but now I've seen them "in the flesh" I love them both. Once they're cleaned up I'll be able to take purty pictures. Bleached Reed (ensuite) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Alaskan (bathroom & laundry) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Our cabinetmaker mentioned that he really liked the Alaskan and I told him my thoughts as above. He then admitted that the reason he wasn't so keen on the Bleached Reed was that he'd recently worked on a motel refurb where it was used in EVERY vanity and bedside table so he was a little bit over it I managed to get a couple of shots on Monday when I had a quick chat to the cabinetmaker about handles. We've got the big ones on the pot drawers and smaller ones on the overheads but he wanted to check the other doors. So we're going with the smaller ones on the main side of the island and big ones on the doors under the bench at the top end to match the pot drawers as those are what you'll see unless you're IN the kitchen and it will visually flow. The mushroom linea doors under the island are push-to-open and the ones above the top end will also have no handles (though we can add them if it ends up looking funny). And DH usually cooks dinner so it will be so nice to have plenty of room in the kitchen for two or more of us to be in there, eg, I can make school lunches while dinner is cooking. My challenge with so much storage space will be to continue my decluttering efforts and keep things organised instead of filling every available space to the brim. We have a rental inspection on Wednesday (blergh - won't miss those at all!) so I'm busy cleaning but will try to get up there at some stage this week for another look. Re: SR's KDR/custom build (Lara) - Sloooooow week :-( 69Aug 09, 2014 10:11 pm Not much happened at all this week - I didn't even see anyone working up there any times I went past On Monday the bricks were cleaned and the articulation joints caulked later in the week. We didn't think they were that bad but now they've been cleaned they look lovely! The robe doors have been installed but still need to be painted. The kitchen splashback has been grouted. The only other news is that we have to choose new toilet roll holders. The ones we selected (Caroma Artego) stupidly attach with only one screw and just won't hold straight no matter how long the screw they use into the noggin/stud. *sigh* The builder's going to email us the other choices from his range or we can get something ourselves for him to install. We popped into Bunings today and saw one we don't hate for about $30 (and we checked they attach with TWO screws ). At least the toilets are separate from the bathroom and ensuite so it won't matter that they're a bit different to the towel rails. Yesterday it felt like a disater though. We've pushed the vinyl back a week (so two weeks' time) and then we'll be almost there. ~ Anne I used to be indecisive but now I'm not quite sure. Eeek - We're embarking on a knockdown rebuild! Don't know why I didn't notice before...or maybe I did and I've forgotten in the last 12 months since we made our selections Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Shiny! But bit by teeny tiny bit, things are getting done. So far this week (that we can spy through the windows) the wall tiles have been grouted, the shower screens installed and the laundry trough and bathroom basins have been put into the benchtops. I tried to take a photo of the sliver of shower screen and basin I can see from the back door but the reflection on the glass made it impossible. I have managed to do a tiny bit of shopping. I could easily spend a fortune on pretties but I need to make sure I have enough to pay for things like TV antenna and internet/phone connection Today in Kmart I got some new towels for the boys - they're navy rib but looked more of a petrol/blue-grey colour in the shop - oh well. Two "bath sheets" (except they're just slightly bigger than normal towels) and one each of hand towel, foot towel/bath mat and face washer for $40. I might go back on the weekend and get another set in a paler blue and then that will do them for a while. Their current towels are about five years old and while they're still going strong, our eldest in particular would like an update from the "babyish" pirate applique on them - very uncool for a 9½-year-old LOL. He was really pleased that we'd bothered to ask beforehand instead of planning out what we wanted and then getting narky because we weren't allowed to have it. At least we have a decent setback so we'll be able to widen the driveway enough to fit two cars in front of the garage as well as two inside (thinking ahead a few years when no doubt we'll start to resemble a car yard instead of a home!) While we were there, the fans and powerpoints were going in so we introduced ourselves and asked nicely if we could come in and have a look We forgot to bring a tape measure with us (the one that's normally in the car hadn't been put back last time - d'oh) to double check the measurements for blinds so we asked what time they were knocking off as we had a concretor coming at 4 pm to give us a quote. We were told 4 pm so I said not to worry about it as we didn't want to hold them up on a Friday afternoon. At 4pm we went back and the sparky as he was leaving said "I'll leave the front door open for you - it's not like you're going to leave it unlocked!" You catch more flies with honey than vinegar!
