Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 13, 2013 7:43 pm Hello all, I am wondering if anyone has advice on this. We had some variations drawn up and costed, but did not go ahead with one of them as it was way outside of our budget. However the builder has gone ahead and built it to this variation, and they now want us to make a contribution to the costs (they are asking around 1/2 of the cost - $5000). Where do we stand legally? I would not be averse to contributing if we had the money to spare, but we don't. I also think if the situation was revered and we found a mistake on the plans that we wanted to fix, the builder would not be meeting us half way to cover costs. All thoughts appreciated! Builder made a mistake but they want us to 2May 13, 2013 7:49 pm How can they ask you to pay when the house they've built is different to the plan you've signed off on? How did it even get to that point? Did you notice it at slab or frame stage? I would be standing my ground and refusing to pay. If you signed one plan, and they built another, surely they don't have a leg to stand on! Re: Help please! Builder made a mistake but they want us to 3May 13, 2013 7:53 pm tell them they can take it down and build the house as per the plans then! depending on what it is they probably won't want to do this as it will cost them even more! if its something you like then its a bonus! Re: Help please! Builder made a mistake but they want us to 4May 13, 2013 7:55 pm Hi sammy, thanks for answering. The problem is not with the slab but with the retaining they have had to do on the block. The slab hasn't actually gone down yet. They are saying that they will have to resubmit the plans to council now as they have built the wrong wall and this will delay the slab going down etc etc etc but I think they are just saying that in the hopes of recouping some costs from us. That's what I think too. If they pull it down, they still have to pay the stonemason for the work he did and then they will have to pay him to build it again to the plan. Plus it will involve moving soakwells and pipes so I think they will leave it as it is. "And that… was without a single drop of Rum!" Jack Sparrow Hi Mofflepop, I would recommend finding a building designer to prepare plans, they should design to your specified budget. The benefit is you can tender the project out… 9 20190 I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says. Thanks 2 9535 |
