Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 13, 2013 11:36 am Hi guys, Quick question - I've recently signed a building contract with Metr!con and one of the special conditions mentioned states that we must obtain an Asset Protection Permit with our local council. The fees associated with the permit and the bond required needs to be paid by me (which is fine), however they also mention that any damage to the council assets (eg. vehicle crossover, footpath, etc.) will be my responsibility to rectify regardless of who damaged it...eg. even if the big 'M' contractors damage the footpath, I will have to foot the bill to get it fixed. Does this sound right to you? Is this standard in all HIA contracts? Re: Asset Protection Permit 2May 13, 2013 12:47 pm The Asset Protection Permit is the insurance for those type of things. You pay a fee and a bind amount to the council. If the council assets (kerb, chanel etc) are damaged you'll lose your bond. I think it's pretty standard. I understand that we may loose the bond, however if they damage footpaths and other council related property, do I also foot the rest of the bill on top of the bond? Or am I covered by the bond and that's it? Re: Asset Protection Permit 4Jul 06, 2013 6:17 am I would insist that the builder be responsible for damage... After all they caused it not you . Can anyone tell me where in the contract this would be located to say who is responsible? Just want to be sure its there before I pay it! Cheers, Met.
