I spoke to Austral bricks today, they did not have a recommendation for the bricks. I have been checking out paint options just in case. I have found a paint shop on Unley Rd that sells Metallic paint. I plan to have a chat with them to see what they recommend. I can let you know if you like? I had a look online to see if there is anything else that could have been done differently. I have noticed that on some houses they cut the sill bricks in half so by the time you get to the end brick it is so small that you can hardly notice the end. Oh well, add to that to the things we wished we knew before Re: _lucinda's house 583Feb 13, 2014 5:42 pm FairmontSAcustom I am not sure if you can lay them the other way, wouldn't the holes end up on top instead of the sides? From talking to our builder there is not a lot they can do, it's just the downside of a glazed brick which also goes for chipping. Our builder said we would soon be an expert at touching up the bricks... Right or wrong, the rendering has been done and will be painted in a colour to match the brick next week. We'll see how long it lasts. I hope it does. I went around the neighourhood to see what others have done and most have short bricks, i.e. looks like the bricks have been cut to avoid the problem of them overhanging with holes showing. So much neater. Wish I had asked for that. Never mind, too late now. Quote: As for the blinds you know that I am a fan of western red cedar but seriously I think either option will look good. Can't believe that you are so close to moving in. I might be a bit jealous, he he I've confirmed black. Still not sure, especially in the entry, but black can't look out of place in my house so I'm not going to lose sleep about it. The second measure has been done--they sent an older guy who had spirit levels and tape measure instead of the modern laser units they use these days. He said the first measure was out by a few millimetres on one side. He also complimented the carpenter for the straightness and evenness of the window frames--yay! sounds like a good job was done there. A few finishing touches were done today--wet boots on my lovely floor, boo hoo--we're supposed to have a final clean tomorrow but I'm wondering if it is worth it with the weather like it is. Final hanging hooks have been placed--wish I had been there when they did the first ones because they are way too high for me to reach; just as well I could have the remaining ones placed where I can reach them. The installer was fabulous and made a suggestion I hadn't thought of which I think turned out to be the perfect spot! Yay, Packers! they've done a very nice job--bedroom cupboards, shower screens, bathroom accessories, and kitchen splashback. Very happy. joffofoz, our frameless shower screens were $2767 for the bathroom and $2931. The bathroom was less because there is less glass; in the ensuite there are three full height glass panels. I can let you know if you like? Yes, please do. I hit send and then realised you had posted while I was writing my previous post. Oh well, add to that to the things we wished we knew before Yes, that would have been a better option. Gosh darn, wish I had thought of it earlier. I didn't even consider that I needed to think about window ledges--wish selections had pointed out the different options. It probably wouldn't have helped any way because obviously this is the way the builder wants to do them and it would have cost extra. We've spent our budget, and creeping over now that we're up to fencing and landscaping--we didn't set a budget limit for the dog. Re: _lucinda's house 585Feb 13, 2014 6:04 pm Yes I am a bit disappointed too. Our brickie did such a great job except for the window ledges How does the render look? Not a big deal if it falls off as you can fix it. Pets never get a budget, same goes for kids Re: _lucinda's house 586Feb 13, 2014 6:14 pm WOW Lucinda, just caught up on the last5 pages. Love everything you have selected. Im so thrilled for you. Minor hiccups here and there which sadly is so common. Nothing will ever be as we want and the builders will always say oh that's standard. Im sick of hearing that phrase lol Well done its simply gorgeous. Re: _lucinda's house 587Feb 15, 2014 4:48 pm Have had our final clean--everything seems to be covered with a greasy film. Never mind, it will be getting a lot dirtier again once we start moving furniture in. The lilac in the walls is rather strong in some lights, but hardly noticeable in others. Once the furniture is in I don't think it will be too overpowering. Also, make sure you know what the air-conditioning and hot water controllers look like and exactly where you want them positioned. I thought I had them positioned in inconspicuous places, but have ended up with them being focal points! I'll get used to them, but they are ugly, and in one place they clash because one is off-white (cream really, and I tried so hard to avoid any cream in the colour scheme!) and the one next to it is grey. I haven't had one in the last two places we've lived: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And the laundry: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Main bathroom--boo hoo, noticed a chip in the basin, and we've signed off on the list of things we wanted rectified so I guess I live with the chip; all accessories now installed (love them): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And the main bathroom shower screen--last piece went in yesterday: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Ensuite shower screen, also completed yesterday--I didn't realise it came with a corner shelf and wouldn't have ordered a straight one if I'd known, but we can't have too many shelves so looking at it as a bonus, although it doesn't quite match but I'll get used to that: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Some more painting to be done by the builder, and work will start on our outside next week. Then we can think about packing and moving. Re: _lucinda's house 588Feb 15, 2014 4:57 pm Looking great! Shame about the hot water and aircon controllers.
