Woo hoo! I'm not sure what happens next--Hachy, did Hickies write or call to let you know your house had moved into construction phase? or did you have to contact them? Congratulations Lucinda!!!!! Scott and Kelly got a letter from Hickies on the Tuesday (23rd) to say they were released on the previous Friday (20th) and on the same day they started the slab. And it has just gone ahead in leaps and bounds since then. I hope yours is a quick as theirs!! I was silly--I made a point of asking for everything to be double glazed, and only at the last minute, and a uneasy feeling, did we find out the back sliding door hadn't been quoted for double glazing. Still, even then, I didn't think of the front door--and when I did, husband said nope, that's enough, we're leaving it as is. Privacy locks, well, I can do without them. If someone comes to visit or to stay and they feel uneasy about it, they can install some for me. Privacy locks are pretty easy to fit, buy them for like $10-$20 and when the first fix joiner is there just flutter your eyelids and ask if he can install for you. Most of them are pretty easy going and seem happy to help in most occassions. May cost you a 6 pack or a Subway lunch but no harm in asking eg We measured and cut the lengths of wood for noggins and the guy was more than happy to nail gun them in for us. Agreed, fitting locks is more technical but do not die wondering. Are you getting to your site every day, or do you resist the temptation? I told my husband I want to go down there and sit in a deck chair watching every piece of timber used, every nail put in place ... nah we dont go there every day, if hubby has a day off during the week we will go by and one or two times on the weekend if he isnt working. we were on our way to an appt but had spare 5 mins to do a quick drive by today. are you moving back before the build will be finished or not til it is complete? Re: _lucinda's house 159Aug 16, 2013 8:03 am Thanks Joane. hachy are you moving back before the build will be finished or not til it is complete? Not until it is complete. Current plan is for me to go down first to get the landscaping and fencing in place before husband and dog come down. Heard from Hickinbotham yesterday. Apparently the laundry window cannot be done as specified--originally it was an ordinary small slider with a fixed side, but when I said I wanted double glazing it became an awning because it was too small for a double glazed slider. That was fine, but the master plan (which I didn't notice) still had a fixed side and the window supplier advised it can't be done that way. I thought it was going to be just one awning, no fixed side!--and I thought I'd been over the plan with the finest tooth-comb! We've written back that one piece was fine, but I awoke last night wondering if it's going to mean a $500 plan redraw ... I'm waiting to see if further email arrives today. I can't pay any more, the budget has gone and no chance of finding any more. We also mentioned the council approval and asked what's next. Re: _lucinda's house 160Aug 16, 2013 10:51 am Hi Lucinda, Scott has had a couple of little issues with his build (nothing major) but if there is a variation to the plan, and it is not his fault it is Hickies, he has told them that he is not paying a variation fee as it was not his fault but theirs and he hasn't been charged so far. They have just sent him out a variation form to sign and it was noted on there that no variation charge is to be charged. One was a window issue where Scott had changed it from one wall to another and on the plan it was not in line with the other walls. The installer managed to change it at the time he put the window in and Hickies let Scott know that it was incorrect on the plan but correct on the actual build, but they did send out the variation for it to be signed. And the other was they were told at selections they couldn't have the NBN as it wasn't available in their area so they declined it but Star Electrical rang Scott and told him he could have it. So Scott rang Hickies and told them to get it included but he wasn't to be charged a variation as it wasn't his fault as he was told by them he couldn't have it. He still obviously has to pay for the installation but not the variation. Also his kitchen plan was incorrect as he had a microwave tower put in and at selections told them his fridge size (which he already has) and was told all was ok. The kitchen maker has now told him that he can't have the alcove for the fridge the size that he wants and it had to be made smaller. This obvioulsy wouldn't fit his fridge into it so he has had to redesign the cupboards to still have the fridge alcove the same size. He also hasn't been charged the variation fee as he gave them the measurements and was told all would be ok. So in short I think you would not be charged as it is not your fault.
