Browse Forums Building A New House Re: _lucinda's house 61May 31, 2013 12:50 pm hope your selections went well and you and hubby agreed on things. no broken camera this time i hope. Re: _lucinda's house 63Jun 01, 2013 6:02 pm Whew! Challenging. We had the most wonderful colour selections consultants--yes, plural! One was in training but she'll get her stripes in no time as she had very few questions to ask the more experienced one. Gosh they have been lovely, so helpful. We arrived early and went way over time--I was so grateful they did this because there is no way I could get back down for another appointment. Most things went well--a few disappointments, but I'm happy with what has to be. Guess what! I didn't take a camera so have no photos. I'll try to put together samples of what I've chosen from bits and pieces I have or can source online. Basically we have white and black throughout--white gloss cabinets, black benchtops and black splashback, glass in the kitchen and tiles in the laundry. I didn't want a mosaic but have ended up asking for one in the bathroom--grey silver foil mix, just a strip from the ceiling to the top of the bath, and the black floor tile up the side of the bath. We can't have tiled surround because it won't fit, but I think the black and white will be complementary enough so that it doesn't look out of place to have the white bath poking over the top. Internal and external paint will be the same colour, Taubman's silver lilac--that saves us apparently because it'll all come out of the same pot so just one charge for a non-standard colour. It is a pale, pale grey with just the slightest hint of lilac in some lights but practically indetectable. Brick is Austral Metallix Emery (we were planning on PGH Apollo or Austral Metallix Bronze but my husband preferred the Emery); mortar, light white sand; roof tile Onyx; garage door, Colourgrain Caoba Dawn; front window and door to match garage door, probably Rosewood stain; all other windows will be Ultra Silver Gloss; gutters and facia, Monument; veranda tile, Alto Nero; front door, Newington XN5 with Cathedral glazing, and Catherdral glazing also in the sidelight; laundry door will be silver lilac; and we'll have invisgard doors to front, laundry and back sliding doors. Floors will be Mountain Ash laminated floorboards (no carpets), and wet areas will be gloss black tiles. I was hoping for a canopy rangehood but they won't put the splashback up behind it so, because I thought it would look awful to have a dark splashback, light grey wall, and glossy white cupboards, I went for an integrated rangehood. I hope it works efficiently enough. We're opting for the wrap gloss and I'm very, very nervous about peeling and yellowing, but my husband prefers the finish. We're using laminate gloss in the bathroom, ensuite and laundry though. Now we wait for the quotes. Will try to get some pictures together. Oh, and we've had approval from the estate for our landscape plan and back open pergola. Yay! That makes us feel like we're actually getting somewhere. Re: _lucinda's house 68Jun 02, 2013 1:25 pm We don't yet have the costing on the invisigard but I'll let you know when our prices come in. Meanwhile here are some pics of what I've been able to put together. It all ends up seeming quite insignificant and boring. But I'm happy with it all. Kitchen--black benchtop and splashback, gloss white cupboards. This is not our kitchen, just a mockup of the colours. I chose those benchtops for my first build, they looked so lovely. Gorgeous & sparkly. Fantastic choices all round. Black and white is so timeless and elegant Your floors are similar to mine. We're having Tasmanian Oak flooring throughout. I admire that you're not having carpets. We are only having carpet in the theatre room and spare bedroom. Otherwise floorboards throughout for us too Custom downslope build Build thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61873 Blog http://www.buildingroyalmanor.blogspot.com.au Re: _lucinda's house 74Jun 04, 2013 4:05 pm Thanks so much Zub, Deluxes, and HomeAngels. Heard from our pergola fellow and he's now told us they don't have Monument so wondering what to do. We already have approval from the Estate and now have to change the colour. He's suggested Woodland Grey but it is too brown-green for me. Looks like the only option will be black. I think it will be okay but he's sending samples, thankfully. Also have heard from Hickies. My ensuite became a problem but we've agreed on a different layout and all seems to be working now--drawings sent off to the suppliers for quotes. Waiting with baited breath. I'm sure the final cost for everything will be breathtaking and add up to a fortune, but fingers crossed it'll all fit within our budget otherwise some serious decisions to be made. Re: _lucinda's house 75Jun 04, 2013 5:44 pm Lovely, lovely, lovely Lucinda! I think black for the pergola will be great. If it is as good as it is in my mind I'll be in raptures. Amy, I'll post again regrading the colour when the samples arrive. I'm thinking black should be fine--the interior is black and white so it might just look like it is inside. Re: _lucinda's house 80Jun 06, 2013 7:48 am Thanks, Rocky. Zub, the pergola is open roof--just angled slats--so there will be no vast expanses of black. It's going to be there more for definition than cover, although it should provide a little protection from direct sun in summer. There was a wooden one at one of the display homes and I fell in love with it, but I don't want the maintenance of wood so we thought this was going to suit us best. The supplier was going to try to find a picture of one, but hasn't been able to do so. Perhaps no one has ever had one installed yet! The house roof tile will be onyx and the brick is deep charcoal so I'm hoping it will be okay.
