Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 11, 2013 2:47 pm Our neighbour's house is quite well set back from the street. We are building at minimum distance from the street and their power lines cross over where we are building. I am assuming they will have to pay to move them? They could put an electricity pole in their front yard and connect from that. Does anyone have any thoughts on a good process to get them to do this? I doubt they'll just agree if I ask them. Re: Neighbour's power lines interfering with our build 5May 12, 2013 9:28 pm The power lines can cross your property if that is the only access point for your neighbour's service AND the cables clear a minimum height ( which I am unaware of the exact height in your area) and obviously the power company concerned will be able to clarify. If I want to move it I have to pay for it. I'm quite upset about it all as looking at other people's posts on the internet, others have been able to have them moved for free. Apparently the cost can run up to $10,000. (haven't verified this). The street power pole is in front of my house, and its the nearest to my neighbour. They are so far back it'll need a private pole to remove them from my land. They didn't tell me anything about minimum height. They didn't even ask for the address. I'm just unhappy as it will take $$ away from my all important build! Hi, How did you eventually address this issue? I'm facing a very similar, but even worse problem in my land which there're two cable lines hanging over my front yard cross driveway with fairly low height to my neighbor's house. I'm not sure if it's power cable, but I'm guessing it'll be equally difficult. Evening, Had my 3 month maintance done on my new place.
