Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 10, 2013 1:21 pm Today we had the practical completion inspection with SS and he told us we must had home insurance from today as it was mentioned in contract. I checked the contract it sounds right. But when I tried to get some quotes online and was told we had to get the occupation certificate before having the insurance. So before issuing occupation certificate, the house is uninsured? Thanks Re: concern about new home insurance 2May 10, 2013 1:39 pm We're with NRMA. They didn't ask us for an occupation certificate. I just let them know that we are building new house and require building insurance to start on this date. What other companies have you tried? Re: concern about new home insurance 9May 14, 2013 2:19 pm leighton I think you will find builder insure until issue of occupancy permit. I mean he likely hasn't finished the job until he gets that certificate, agree? Actually the standard building contract says that we must have building insurance in place on date of practical completion inspection (i.e., before the occupancy certificate is issued). hfwangoz Thank you for reply. Youi give me a quote $720 for H&C, but not including flood. Is the price ok? It depends on whether or not the quote will cover not only rebuilding your house, but also the removal of rubble, etc if your house has to be knocked down. You don't technically need contents insurance until you move in as well. Are you in a flood prone area? Hard to tell if it is a good price or not as we don't know exactly what you are insuring and how much you are insuring things for.
