Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 07, 2013 11:05 pm Hi All, Just wondering if anyone can shed some light about this? Our builder is not installing our phone line to the property. Question is, does Telstra need to come and run the line when the builder is running the services lines so it follows the same path or is this something Telstra can do after handover? Thanks in advance Purchased Land: October 2010 Pre Quotation: August 2012 Pre Start Complete: 29 Nov 2012 Refinance for Build approved: 11 March 2013 Due to commence build!!!! Re: Question Regarding Telstra Line Setup for New Build 2May 08, 2013 12:08 am it normally gets done when they do pre wiring. have you checked that you can get telstra in your area and not the NBN? Re: NBN / Phone Line Questions..???? 3May 08, 2013 12:13 am Hi Hachy, Thanks - will check with the builder then what they allow. I am still confused about this NBN thing. When I look on the NBN website it says that our area is currently under construction and due to completion within 12 months. Don't know if that then means that we can sign up after that? We definitely will want the NBN if it does become available (we re building in madora bay) so would that mean we would need a telstra line? So confused..... Also - may sound totally clueless here but do data points have to be installed at time of construction or are they easy to install with a electrician after handover? Just thinking we may want data points for the tv's so not relying on Wireless however will NBN be available through a data point or only wirelessly. This NBN has got me so confused!!! Re: NBN / Phone Line Questions..???? 4May 08, 2013 12:18 am i dont know too much about the NBN to be honest. what i do know is in our area we are building in we have no telstra only NBN although some areas may have both. we opted to go without a phone line as it was going to cost us $1030 for NBN and it didn't fit into our budget. Re: NBN / Phone Line Questions..???? 5May 08, 2013 5:47 am nbn has me very confused we are in a new estate. but as they cannot find my street nbn told me i cannot have nbn as our developer did not do the paper work for NBN to have the street name. optus will not give us a line as it says only telstra has the exchange. so even though we are ready for nbn we are back to adsl. Nbn cables are just across the street from us. i have spoken to telstra and new rulings came out that they cannot set up anyone up with NBN until after construction of the line is completed. also found out that within 12 months for completion can be stretched to anytiime we have a telstra box in our house and after handover the will come and run the lines throughout the house so am still very confused Re: NBN / Phone Line Questions..???? 6May 08, 2013 8:04 am englewestern We definitely will want the NBN if it does become available (we re building in madora bay) so would that mean we would need a telstra line? Yes, you’ll need a Telstra copper line from the street into your property until the NBN is available – unless you want to live with just mobiles until the NBN.... Have your builder install two conduits to the street – one for the copper line now and the other for the future fibre cable. Also have a look at http://www.nbnco.com.au/assets/documents/key-information-for-builders-and-cablers.pdf for a bit more info on getting the NBN into your house. Much, much easier running data cables and installing data points around the house when building. Not relying on wireless in the future is a good plan – the more wired data points the better. My 2c worth, wireless should only be relied upon for mobile access or to get data somewhere that was an afterthought. ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Re: NBN / Phone Line Questions..???? 7May 08, 2013 10:18 pm Hi Englewestern The NBN is run in from the street to a small box that most people seem to put in there garage. From here a router is connected and all net work points that are in the house are cabled back to this point. It is best to install the conduits into the walls before white set goes on. This will allow the network cabling to be run at a later stage or during the wire up of your house stage. In my house being built i have allowed for cat6a network cable to be run to 4 areas with in the house that will all terminate in the garage at the NBN box. 1. Home office for pc ect 2. Kids activity room for play station smart tv ect 3. Theatre room for smart tv and streaming movies ect 4. Lounge for smart tv set top box ect. My view is that in the not so distant future all tv channels will come down the NBN movies on demand ect so im trying to future proof myself best i can during the build as it is easyer and cheaper. If you can afford it get it now and if not at least put the conduit in the walls where you think you may need it for easy install at a later date. Am just going to go overboard with the conduit for now Mullet - wonder when NBN will end up being available to us ..... Re: NBN / Phone Line Questions..???? 9May 08, 2013 11:19 pm Our builder is putting in the provision for nbn. We are putting the phone point and nbn data point in pantry which is central. From there a modem router with a switch will send seven cat5 cables to activity theater study living bed 1. Conduits on single walls. Diy job. So for now we will use the phone line and later the nbn. Re: NBN / Phone Line Questions..???? 10May 09, 2013 11:15 am Madora Bay currently has ewire , but the NBN is being hauled through this year . The original completion date was November 2013 but has now been pushed to March 2014 . All I can say is that is happening in the Mandurah area ( I have seen the green cable going into the ground around the CBD area) and Madora bay should go live fist half 2014. Re: NBN / Phone Line Questions..???? 11May 09, 2013 3:32 pm I'm going through the process of getting things connected, and am in a similar position, so perhaps this will help. In my situation, NBNCo's website actually list my property as not having it available, but I've seen the technical documents and provisioning list, and it's done. NBNCo have also confirmed it's physically connected to my premises. To find out when it's available, go to nbnco.com.au and search for your address. It might be slightly inaccurate though - I'll see if I can find the provisioning list again which provides every specific address or stage added to the network. The map however tells me construction commences in your area in September last year. To be completely clear, these won't all actually terminate at the NBN box - each port provides a separate isolated service, they're not a switchport in themselves. This is simply overcome in such that you connect a PPPoE or IPoE (depending on your ISP) device (ie, router) to the data port associated to the line the service is activated on. Same is true of your FXO ports, it's not two phone ports for one service, each port is associated to a service. So, for example, you might have port 1 on iiNet at 100/40, port 2 on some kind of iPrimus business connection, port 3 on 12/1 service, etc. Building a Delta 21 at Craigieburn - http://homeofzero.blogspot.com.au/ Deposit: 26/02. Re: NBN / Phone Line Questions..???? 12Aug 22, 2013 2:43 pm Hi Mullet & Englewestern, I, too, am building in Madora Bay and it's been great following your builds. However, I am totally clueless on getting internet and foxtel connected. I am told that E-Wire is available in Madora Bay. Does anyone know how much about E-Wire as I only know Telstra? I have had my new house pre-wired for NBN but I am not sure what to do until NBN rolls out. Please help... Handover due in the next couple of weeks Re: NBN / Phone Line Questions..???? 13Aug 22, 2013 8:22 pm Hi Aj73 and welcome to MBay check out the ewire website for more infor https://www.e-wire.net.au/ . Personally I would wait till the NBN comes through in Q2 next year. As for foxtel it will be a normal install . Just contact them for the install. Get your phone company to do the connect from the road to the house and use this till the NBN comes. Hope it helps. Re: NBN / Phone Line Questions..???? 14Aug 23, 2013 10:23 pm Thanks Mullet. I sent off my application to E-Wire today so that I can get the "free" tv channels since we are not allowed to put a tv antenna up. I have also decided to get our Internet through E-Wire as well as Telstra works out too expensive and I may not even be able to get ADSL. I rather wait for NBN. So far I was the first house being built on our street and I am so excited to see slabs going down and brickwork starting at three other sites. This means I don't have to bear the full brunt of the wind. First Inspection scheduled for 5th September....whoo hoo!!! 4 10821 Hi everyone, Looking for some advise.
