Should I ask for it to be fixed now or wait for our first inspection by New Home Inspections? Re: DOES BRICKWORK LOOK LEVEL ? 2Apr 24, 2008 11:23 pm Looks to me like the bricks in the 2nd window are on more of an angle. I'd bring this to the attention of your SS as it definitely does look uneven. Dana -------------------------- Building with DFH - carpet installed! Re: DOES BRICKWORK LOOK LEVEL ? 6Apr 25, 2008 12:10 am martyme,
The tops of the windows are aligned...not the bottoms in this case. The windows are usually made to a standard measurement but there could be a difference between the wood manufacturer and the aluminium manufacturer. Can I see 1/3rd bricks under the sill bricks on the wooden window. In this case the builder IMO has made a judgement to brick to the window rather than adjust the window to make it more aesthetically appealing. Again I would be interested to hear Kevins opinion in this case... Good luck. Re: DOES BRICKWORK LOOK LEVEL ? 7Apr 25, 2008 12:15 am It also appears that the angle of the bricks away from the windows differes as well making the difference far more noticeable.
The angle of the aluminium window is steeper compared to the wooden window Re: DOES BRICKWORK LOOK LEVEL ? 8Apr 25, 2008 12:17 am I'd be interested to know how it [both windows] look from inside. As you can see from this photo I definately think that it is the angle thats the problem, however I will talk to Kevin at the pre plaster stage to have a close look and then take his advise. Re: DOES BRICKWORK LOOK LEVEL ? 11Apr 25, 2008 11:51 am Like Matt said…this is a difference due to standard “Aluminium windows” and the “timber” ones you have!
By the way…..I love your bricks! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: DOES BRICKWORK LOOK LEVEL ? 12Apr 25, 2008 1:31 pm Yes, it does look a bit out of wack!.
If you look closely below the closes windows, it looks like there is a bigger mortar gap underneath... Re: DOES BRICKWORK LOOK LEVEL ? 13Apr 25, 2008 1:49 pm Big tick to the bricks as well.....great look...!...and for what it's worth the windows look a bit amiss.... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: DOES BRICKWORK LOOK LEVEL ? 14Apr 25, 2008 1:50 pm Definitely looks like different height windows to me. You will probably find that the windows are put in so that the tops of all of them are the same, then any difference in height will occur at the sil level.
To me, the end bricks of each window in the first photo appear to have the same angles. I know we have a couple of windows (aluminium) that required a small colourbond matching piece inserted above them to make the sil height correct - because they were first done without this, but the had to pull down the bricks above the window to re-do it. If you are concerned about it definitely speak up sooner rather than later! Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: DOES BRICKWORK LOOK LEVEL ? 15Apr 25, 2008 8:05 pm Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅
Close up clearly showing an extra partial course of bricks under the timber window and that the sill bricks are definately on different angles. AS can be seen in the elevation drawing these windows are supposed to not only be level but also the same height! Not sure how they are going to fix it but we will expect it to be fixed to our satisfaction! Re: DOES BRICKWORK LOOK LEVEL ? 18Apr 25, 2008 10:12 pm They look like completely different frames altogether. Like different manufacturers even. Sure, they are different sizes but they look a little different in the way the frame is installed too. Re: DOES BRICKWORK LOOK LEVEL ? 19Apr 28, 2008 11:24 pm Hi all, Spoke to SS today and asked him to look into and rectify window issues, from his lukewarm response I guess we are going to have to fight to get what we want.
