Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 13, 2013 8:23 pm Hey guys, hoping a few out there can help my concerns. 4 weeks ago I visited the site of our new build and noticed that our windows had been delivered and were left laying on the ground. The frame had only just started to be erected so I was a little concerned already. Last week I went back out to site and noticed the windows still on the ground and full of water and mud from the rain we have been having lately. More concerning was my beautiful Merbau stained windows and doors had also been left for 2 weeks out in the rain on the ground. As a wood worker this has realy concerned me and the site foreman is telling me that they will be ok. Should I be worried? Re: New timber windows left out in the rain!! 2May 13, 2013 8:31 pm This is interesting. The window companies deliver windows to site. They deliver in all kinds of weather, they drop them down (hopefully with care) and they leave them in the weather. You need to ask the window company what instructions they gave the builder before he bought the windows and before they dropped them off and walked away. cheers Re: New timber windows left out in the rain!! 3May 18, 2013 11:28 am otoole33 Hey guys, hoping a few out there can help my concerns. 4 weeks ago I visited the site of our new build and noticed that our windows had been delivered and were left laying on the ground. Most window companies will not leave windows, or will call the supervisor, if the site is not ready, even if the windows have been called up, sometimes supervisors call up without knowing the status. The weather can hold up your build. Sounds like your site was not quite ready, it's the builder's problem. Window companies don't randomly deliver windows. Generally reveals (including MDF which is always MR - moisture resistant grade) can withstand fairly long periods left out in the weather. Many years ago we tested MR MDF and it was fine after 6 months (we don't use MDF due to the weight of the products). I would put the builder on notice that if the stained timber is water damaged, it's his problem. I have informed the builder (not Exactely calmly) that this was unacceptable and if there is so much as a blemish on the windows then they will be replaced, no questions asked. He has informed me that they "should be ok" and he installed them the next day. you need a fridgie to answer but I would think you vac the whole system then add gas if you have a leak, unless it is new install with the gas already loaded, in that case… 1 3657 Old Home Restoration / Renovation Hi, just discovered all these junks left behind under the floor.
