Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 04, 2013 3:57 pm Hi, After going going through alot of threads on here and seeing your guys awesome builds, my partner and I have decided to do our own build after selling our house hopefully at the end of this year. So I have been having a play on Google sketch up getting ideas off the internet and just basically mucking around. Where I get lost though is in room sizing so I have made a PDF of some drawings I have made up and was hoping some of you guys would like to have a look at see what you think about the sizes and layout also. We don't want/Need a big house so I have tried to keep it down. Eventually I'm going to get a draftsman from work to do the plans but would like to have things sort of set out to hopefully make it quicker for him. https://www.dropbox.com/s/hr1ky8574q5xz2e/Home_Plan.pdf Sorry I'm new to sharing stuff online so hopefully this works. Kind regards, Steven Re: My playing around with sketchup. 2May 04, 2013 4:27 pm A couple of things to think about are: I would be very careful about the single pitched roof. A see a lot of examples in suburbs around 40-50 years old but I very rarely see one that looks succesful. In a program like Sketch Up that space above the windows on the high side of the roof doesn't look too big. Once the house is built it looks huge. The other thing I have found with interior plans is you can get involved in the computer plans too soon. I use a pencil and paper to make Bubble diagrams (http://www.anewhouse.com.au/?p=600) Good Luck Brian The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: My playing around with sketchup. 3May 04, 2013 4:35 pm Thanks for the advice. Yeah I am not sure what it is about mono pitched roofs but I just always seem to prefer them maybe its just because its different I'm not sure. But I think I did get a little ahead of myself didn't I One think I noticed on a house of similar design was they had a Pagolia (Spelling?) Over both the Bifolds in lounge and also master bedroom french doors I guess that was to break up the large forehead of the house. But hey nothing is set in stone so I will keep looking and changing things as I learn. Pergola.......The other thing about Mono pitch roofs is the roof eave is often too high to provide enough shade in summer to stop the house overheating. That means a pergola is really needed to help keep the house cool. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
