Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 03, 2013 3:37 pm Hi, We are about to go to pre start with Celebration Homes and are looking for advice... Have had a quote for our TV/Data points through "Intelligent Homes" and it seems really expensive. Was just wondering if anyone else found this and do we just need to pay it and suck it up or are there any other options? Any advice on building/pre start/celebration etc greatly appreciated, we are new to this! Thank you Re: Building with Celebration Homes - any advice 2May 03, 2013 3:48 pm Oooh I am interested in replies to this as well. We have just signed up with Celebration too! Which house are you building and where? So far I have found Celebration to be very helpful and efficient Re: Building with Celebration Homes - any advice 3May 03, 2013 4:23 pm Hi mrnorthernmonkee and Rubes. We are currently building with Celebrations( we are at roof stage). I found the Intelligent home thing a bit confusing myself when I first found out about it. With the new NBN becoming available your almost forced to get your house ready for it whether you want it or not We just did that part at prestart. From memory we got the cheapest. I was a bit reluctant to pay it as well, but we just did in the end. In the grand scheme of things, it's not heaps of money and I didn't want to have regrets down the track. We did a lot of choosing on the day, like render colour , tile selection ect. If your able to go have a look at their pre selection centre prior , you can have an idea of what you want before prestart. As we lived so far away we went up their 2 hours prior to decide some things. Have your electrical plan with any added points you want to put in, mind you we still forgot ones, but that's our fault. To get extra double points its around $64 and $55 for singles. To upgrade from a double to a quad it's $39. We did this in places like the kitchen and garage. We upgraded a few slider windows to awning windows $150 each. We also got extra tiling behind W/M in laundry, it was only $112 and it completes it a bit more. We didn't spend heaps at prestart as we did a lot of the extras in our original costings. Hope that is a bit of a help for you. Let me know if you want any more info. We have found Celebrations really good. We've had a few minor hick ups, but that's been our fault more than theirs. One of the good things about them is that their pre construction faze is very fast in comparison to others. We had a slab within 3 months of our prestart and that was with Christmas shutdown. I read about other people's woes with their builders on here and feel for them cos the admin side of it was quite fast for us. And what you see in their display houses is what you get. You don't have to upgrade all the time. Anyhow good luck ..I will follow your build if you start a thread( I don't have one) Re: Building with Celebration Homes - any advice 4May 03, 2013 10:32 pm Hi Rubes & Belle22, Thank you for reply to our post. Rubes - we are building the Monroe in Alkimos Belle22 - Thanks so much for your advice, think we are just going to have to suck up the whole intelligent homes business, and I guess you right in the scheme of things. Thanks also for giving us an idea of some of the pre start costs. We have pre start on Monday - must admit we are ready for it (we signed up on the 8th Feb), but I can't complain because so far, so good. We have pretty much already picked out most things, and we had done our electrical plan. And like you we have already included most of our extras in the original costings. Which house are you building? I am very new to this website and to these forums, but I look forward to hearing from you both, I'm not sure what a "thread" even is, but I'll look into it Re: Building with Celebration Homes - any advice 5May 04, 2013 11:11 am Hi mrnorthernmonkee You sound pretty organised for prestart...much more than what we were. We are both indecisive people that doesn't help!! Yes good idea to get all your changes and costings done prior, least you know where you are financially. We didn't upgrade much as we were happy with the standards. The most we spent was mainly on electrical. We are building the Sol , but with heaps of changes. We completely changed the ensuite around and in hindsight we should of just kept in the same , cos I'm not loving what we ended up with. It looked good on paper, not so functional in real life!! It's so annoying as we spent a lot to change it up and spent heaps of time on it..... but what do you do, it was our choice and we just have to suck it up and hope once it's all completed it won't be so bad...that's what I'm telling myself whilst in the fetal position..lol!! I really like the Monroe especially the elevation. If it wasn't so wide we may have built that design, but we were limited with our width. Are you going with that elevation or another? We changed our elevation. I liked the Sol elevation but just wanted something more traditional . Oh by thread I just mean a building timeline like what other people do on here. I haven't done it myself Good luck with prestart. Hope you get someone good!! Let us know how you go. Re: Building with Celebration Homes - any advice 6May 04, 2013 5:28 pm We are building with celebration homes and they have been great just a few minor hiccups but all sorted now. We had every thing picked before prestart apart from render and gutter colours. Add as many power points as u can they are much cheaper now than later. As for intelligent homes we just sucked it up and delt with it they way over estimated the site works so we got money back which just covered that anyway. We signed up in November but not much could be done as our titles hadn't been released. Prestart was on the 25th march and have most of our approvals so hopefully a slab soon Celebration Homes, Whiteman edge A question. Im in Queensland and building a new home. We managed to reach practical completion 6 weeks ago but we haven't heard any date for handover yet.
