A wedding comes and goes once with little to show for it after. Building a Delta 21 at Craigieburn - http://homeofzero.blogspot.com.au/ Deposit: 26/02. Contract: 22/05. Settlement: 29/05. Site start: 18/10. Re: Wedding or house 15May 01, 2013 4:37 pm deluxes We spent about $23 - $25k on our wedding day. Beautiful day and i wouldnt trade it for the world... or a cheaper wedding. It was the day i dreamed of and I can honestly say I probably would have regretted doing anything smaller or less than what we did. But that is a personal choice and NO ONE can tell you if its a waste or if it's what you should do. These things are all relative to the people involved... Agree with the above. We got married in October 2010 and indeed we did spend money we otherwise could have used for our house. But I am glad that we did it this way! Now May 2012 we have our block, or as soon as we receive our titles, house will follow shortly after. Just my 2 cents, but would so do that wedding again. Less pain to get it organised compared to the build of a house Re: Wedding or house 16May 01, 2013 4:53 pm DoubleDutch deluxes We spent about $23 - $25k on our wedding day. Some people are happy not to get married at all... some wont spend less that $50,000! I dont think I should point fingers at anyone and tell them whats a waste and whats not. Its perspective. And we are all different! What is a waste of money to some, its everything to another. Same as hoildays, cars, furniture, TV's etc. We all spend money on things that our neighbours and friends wouldnt and vice versa. Getting back to the original question... Yes, a bricks and mortar investment is the wisest choice first, 100% agree and in hindsight we should have done it before the wedding... I think the question that was being asked is which one FIRST? Not, how much they should actually spend on their wedding when they do do it... that's a personal choice Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66299 Slab: 16/6/14 Frame: 4/7/14 Roof: 22/7/14 Lock Up: 20/8/14 Fixing: 26/8/14 PCI: 9/10/14 Handover: 20/10/14 Re: Wedding or house 17May 01, 2013 4:58 pm Heh...my preference would be based on my experience of being married twice. One wedding was done cheap, the other all out. Don't regret a cent of the expensive one. The cheap one...always regretted not being able to spend more on it. Cheap photos, cheap honeymoon, cheap cars, it was a regret I lived with and even now look back on and wish I could have put more money into it. It was a nice church and a nice reception venue (that I got a great deal on as I worked for them as a DJ) but when you get a cheap photographer to cut costs, you get cheap photos and an album of proofs you just shove in a drawer because, well, they look cheap. Probably choosing a one eyed photographer didn't help... hehehe I'd do the expensive one again in a heartbeat...great photos, could invite more people, amazing wedding cars, over the top hotel suite, and a honeymoon in Fiji. Ultimately it's what is important to you. Nobody can tell you what you should do. Finances should play a part. My first wedding was cheap because that's all I could afford. My first house was a fixer upper but in a good area and a sound investment ultimately. It served me well for 13 years. My second wedding I was in a much better position financially so it didn't really matter. Completed a knock down and rebuild in northern Melbourne. Handover completed 27/09/2013 and now moved in. Re: Wedding or house 18May 01, 2013 5:01 pm Quote: I think the question that was being asked is which one FIRST? Again I would say wedding..... With our age is had to be the wedding first (41 and 35, at the time). Yes we are a bit old for our first home, but I must admit it is my second one, just the first one in Australia. Gosh I love a nice wedding, and indeed price range is up to the couple. Re: Wedding or house 19May 01, 2013 5:13 pm House. You can still have a giant wedding if you want to, just a bit later. The housing market goes up and down, interest rates change, bank rules and fees change - so if you can get a house now, I would. We brought our house and got married three years later. We spent $20k on our wedding and another $10k on the honeymoon. Just because you buy a house doesnt mean you have to go without these things! We just saved and did it all a bit later. - MrsT Brought first house in 2008. Renovated...a LOT. Built in 2013. After my wedding which we did it on the cheap, i said that I would recommend to anyone 'go overseas with close family and friends' On sunrise today, they said that a new study show that the average cost of a wedding is $55K that crazy. I think people are forgetting about the real reason behind 'marriage' and focus on 'wedding' You’re on the right track, wire brush in a grinder then a zinc rich epoxy primer then a top coat of some sort, like a waterproofing membrane.
