Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 28, 2013 5:45 pm Thought it was about time I started our own thread! Been here there and everywhere and detailing the build on lots of other threads, so time to centralize it all. Long story short, 2nd build for me (through Hickies as well) and the 1st for hubby. We after MUCH deliberation picked a block we liked, have a hold, and are signing contracts this week on it We were sooo close to signing with Fairmont Homes for the Whitmore design, but after getting a quote from Hickinbotham on the Harrington Alfresco and comparing a few inclusions and options, we decided to go with Hickies. The design itself we are modifying by removing the Bed 4/Study and shifting that whole wing downward, which will bring the back of Bed 3 in line with the family/living room at the back and shorten the length of the home. We were only ever looking at 3br 2bath 2 living area designs anyway. There will be a cavity sliding doors in place of the regular door to the Home Theatre and a hi-lite strip window in there in place of the regular window. The sliding door in the family room is being changed into a window only and an extra window added to look out over the back. The sliding door in the dining area will remain and will access the alfresco area. So not too much adjustment, just a bit to make it "ours". It's a new design to Hickinbotham and wasn't even in the book yet! So, lucky I was roaming online and found it on their website http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w552/thedeluxes/image_zps60a22272.jpg Colour choices and Ideas so far are: Lots of natural, earth tones - from tans to coffees, to browns and deep natural reds. External: Roof: Jasper Colourbond Bricks: Austral Almond with Lite sand mortar Front window: Timber framed and stained in deep cedar Garage door: Timbaglide panel door in Cedar Elevation/Facade features: raised portico and stained timber door Trying to keep it all neutral with the timber features doing the work and to make it "pop". Internal: A deeper tan interior colour like a Taubmans Stone Lion or Kid Skin (haaaaate that name!) rather than a white or cream. Our kitchen will be modeled on the below example from a Fairmont display, using Echelon Redwood laminex for that light jarrah woody look http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w552/thedeluxes/7c137728-7922-47d7-a3d0-3991dd1fcc34_zpsc7645222.jpg http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w552/thedeluxes/image_zps2df1ced3.jpg With a floating timber floor looking something like this Haven't settled on anything finally as its all early days! But this is the theme we are trending along... We had picked a 3br design with Fairmont (that's all we wanted) so we thought we'd see what change it had to the price, if it was minimal, we were planning on keeping it, but $8k, plus the reduction in costs to run another air con duct in there, carpet it, put a blind and light fitting in, it'll save us about $10,000. Probably worth more in a re-sale situation, but we aren't planning on moving for a looong time. We figured we weren't sacrificing anything we needed or wanted, and we could put that money towards another upgrade we did want Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66299 Slab: 16/6/14 Frame: 4/7/14 Roof: 22/7/14 Lock Up: 20/8/14 Fixing: 26/8/14 PCI: 9/10/14 Handover: 20/10/14 Re: Our Hickinbotham Build - Bluestone, Mt Barker 6Apr 28, 2013 10:12 pm Following! Re: Our Hickinbotham Build - Bluestone, Mt Barker 11Apr 28, 2013 11:07 pm Bathroom, ensuite and laundry tiles most likely, haven't really seen what is in the bronze range properly, but I do like the larger, glossier ones Taps and basins as well. Then I'll put the rest towards timber slat blinds and the flooring. Hubby has the landscaping covered, and Hickies are doing the paving for our driveway, the alfresco slab (we'll just tile it after handover) and perimeter paths. I didn't get the perimeter paths or driveway done last build and it was such a pain, so I said that this time I was getting it done pre-handover! We had a look in mind, the original pic i posted at the start of this thread was of flooring we saw in a Rossdale display home and really liked. The mixed wood type will allow us to blend a few lighter and darker woods within the place. I'm not excited for tiles.... i'm daunted and confused! We cant seem to settle on a colour. Then when we pick a colour a feature tile that we like wont match, so then we go back to square one. Then my brain hurts. I convinced him to join the board club and now I am actually considering tiles because of the dog haha... The bathroom tiles we like are a really light tan porcelain too so my brain is working overtime! As now considering to ditch my lovely greys and just go warm browney tones Siteworks 8/11 Slabbed 19/11 Our Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65703 Re: Our Hickinbotham Build - Bluestone, Mt Barker 20May 07, 2013 2:26 pm oh my!! Scott does the same thing!! I try and say that greys are blue/cool based and browns are red/warm based tones. But, no... hahahaha well real timber floorboards can dent a bit, the laminates are really durable and scratch resistant for pets and so is the Bamboo. We are going for the slightly distressed ones, so if there are any nicks or scratches it'll blend in. Scott mentioned tiles the other day... Whilst i love them, I just dont want to go down the road of changing YET AGAIN! Its like a domino effect... you change one thing, it starts to affect all your colour choices! Its no secret that I love warm browny tones, so I think it'll all look fantastic, but I love charcoals and greys too! It just sucks that you cant mix both... but you cant! You've already mentioned it. Sue them.
